Venue: Library of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (Almaty, Al-Farabi Ave., 71/27). 

The main goal and objectives of the symposium is to popularize written and oral sources written and preserved from ancient times to the present day; analysis of the reasons for naming toponyms (geographical and natural features, historical events, socio-cultural influences), tribal names, proper names; phonetic and morphological changes in toponyms, etc.

Brief information about the symposium:

Altaic studies is an independent branch of general linguistics, which studies on a large scale the origin, kinship, development of the Altaic languages, as well as Finno-Ugric, Japanese, Korean and other languages. At present, the theory of studying the Altaic languages has spread to many countries under the name "Altaistics", the purpose of which, using the comparative historical method in linguistics, is to determine the similarities and features of the languages belonging to the Altaic family.

Interest in the Altai world, which has been studied by scientists and researchers for thousands of years, has never ceased. Work in this direction intensified and deepened after the independence of the Turkic states of the CIS. The Turkic countries and peoples strive to get to know each other better, to jointly explore the Turkic world as a whole.

The work of this symposium, which is a continuation of the traditional event of the International Altai Association, is devoted to history and culture, literature and art, the problems of Turkic studies and the scientific study of the ancient written heritage, place names (toponymy) and other interesting problems that unite the Turkic world.

The program of the symposium includes more than 200 participants from Kazakhstan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Hungary, Korea, Japan, USA, Russia, India and other countries, who will take part in work of 10 (ten ) sections during four days.

As a result of the symposium will be:

● a collection of speeches, reports, articles by the participants of the symposium organized by the International Altai Association has been published and will be available on the organizers' website;

● ways of creating conditions for increasing scientific interest in the traditional and debatable aspects of research in the field of Turkic and Altai studies were considered;

● proposals were developed to achieve a mutual exchange of knowledge, ideas, topical problems in the study of the heritage of Altaist scientists;

● mechanisms for developing the research potential of young scientists involved in Alta studies were considered;

● an agreement was reached on the launch of scientific projects in the formation of scientific and cultural international cooperation between Altaic scientists and others.
