At the beginning of each academic year, the teaching staff of the Department of Foreign Languages annually tests 1st year undergraduate students to determine their level of foreign language proficiency. In recent years, in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic, teachers of the department have been actively using new types of teaching technology. For example, remote testing of students, where they perform a lexical and grammatical test online.
This year, the Placement Test for determining the level of English was created in the Google Forms format, which had to be completed on time. According to the test results, 1st year undergraduate students of the Higher School of Economics and Business, who received high scores, wrote an essay on the topic World Languages and passed an oral interview. The topic of the interview was dedicated to the University Language Week, dedicated to the Day of Languages in Kazakhstan.
Speaking about the importance of trilingualism in Kazakhstan, the students noted the fact that the state takes care of creating conditions for the study and development of the languages of the Kazakhstani people. September 22nd is a significant date, which has become a common holiday for all the peoples of Kazakhstan, that every citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan has the right to use their native language, to freely choose the language of communication, education and creativity.
