Round table "LANGUAGES AND CULTURES IN POLYETHNIC KAZAKHSTAN"

On September 21, 2021, the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held a round table "LANGUAGES AND CULTURE IN POLYETHNIC KAZAKHSTAN", devoted to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence and the Day of languages of the People of Kazakhstan.

The event was moderated by Associate Professor Amanzholova D.B. and senior lecturer Ismailova Sh.A. The r teachers of the department and the students of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in the round table.

Ph.D., professor S.K. Mizanbekov made a presentation on the topic: "Language is the path of civilization and culture." "Language does not exist outside of culture" - this is the main message that was voiced by the speaker. In his report Mizanbekov S.K. touched upon the connection between language and culture, the language reflection in the worldview, the mentality of an ethnic group. The speaker also showed how the problems listed above are highlighted  in the President's Message to the People of Kazakhstan. Professor Mizanbekov S.K. quoted the President’s words, who called "the 30th anniversary of independence the highest value of our country." Besides the speaker’s reports was also focused on intercultural communication and civil society, language learning and modernization in the field of education.

The next speaker was senior lecturer Sh.A. Ismailova.  The report topic was "Language policy in Kazakhstan". It focused on the problems of building a language policy in a multi-ethnic state. She spoke about the balance of the language policy of Kazakhstan and the combination of monolingualism with the policy of trilingualism to achieve peace and harmony in society. A mini-poll on the knowledge of languages was conducted in real time among the audience.

Doctor of Philosophy, Professor N.Zh. Shaimerdenova in her report “Vitality of native languages ​​in the era of digitalization and linguistic diversity” touched upon the important and urgent problem of language preservation. She also said about multilingualism in the context of digitalization and globalization. The study of endangered languages ​​is seen as a contribution to the development of world civilization. The speaker mentioned the UN-established celebration of the Mother Language Day on February 21 in order to preserve linguistic diversity. She concluded her reports with the words to the students: “Learn and know as many languages ​​as possible”.

In the second part of the event, students recited poems in different languages. Thus, 1st year students of the Kazakh department (specialty "Logistics") Maralova Ayzere read the verse “Two languages” by T. Zumakulova in Russian, and Amankeldy Aisha expressively read the poem “Ana tili” by N. Aytuly.

Zhomart Assem, the 1st year student of the translation department of the Central Kazakhstan Academy (Karaganda), read a poem by Magzhan Zhumabaev "Kazakh tili". Anastasia Melnikova, the 2nd year students of the Faculty of Philology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University read a poem by V. Korotkevich in Belarusian, Mashrykova Zhannar recited K. Ezizov's poem in Turkmen language. Aitzhanova Zhanna recited an excerpt from V. Hugo's poem "Behind the Barricades" in French.

Further, the poetic relay was picked up by Amanzholova Gemma Bolatovna, associate professor, candidate of philological sciences, head of the Altair children's book academy. She read Eva Stritmatter's poem in German and her own literary translation of the poem into Russian.

In conclusion, Professor Shaimerdenova N.Zh. thanked all the teachers and students who were present at the event and congratulated everyone on the holiday of languages.
