The International scientific and practical conference: "Theory and Practice of Lexicography" dedicated to S.I. Ozhegov’s 120th anniversary

On 14-15 December, 2020, in Moscow, the online International scientific and practical conference: "Theory and Practice of Lexicography" dedicated to S.I. Ozhegov’s 120th anniversary was held on the zoom platform by the initiation of the expert center "Sociology and Analytics".

The importance of holding this conference is determined by the fact that the traditions laid down by S.I. Ozhegov form the basis of lexicographic practice, and today Kazakhstani scholars use his research ideas and the principles of compiling dictionaries.

At the conference, in accordance with the program, Russian and Kazakh scholars delivered their lectures and made reports . The work of the conference began with an introductory speech by the moderator, Professor of the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature N. Zh. Shaimerdenova, who emphasized the importance of such conferences. The first day of the conference was opened by Doctor of Philology, professor of L.I. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, N. Kadisha. Then the floor was given to  Professor Zh.S. Beisenova who made a report  about terminography. During her presentation, Professor Zh.S. Beisenova remembered her doctoral dissertation defense at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The presentation by the Candidate of Philology., D. B. Amanzholova was of a particular interest. The topic of her report was “ Russian fairy tale in the Kazakh school: from definitions to images '', which  touched upon the topical issue of teaching the Russian language through fairy tales in Kazakh language schools. Doctor of Philology, Professor V.D. Narozhaya made an interesting presentation on the topic: the history of words.

The speakers focused on codification of modern norms, usus, lexicography, review and analysis of modern dictionaries. The main event of the first working conference day was the film " Sergei Ivanovich Ozhegov’s life and work". The audience showed a great interest in the lecture: delivered by Irina Levontieva Borisovna. The lecture topic was “S.I. Ozhegov and his "Dictionary of the Russian language" in the history of Russian studies”. At the end of the meeting Pakhomov Vladimir Makarovich, editor-in-chief of the portal "Gramota.ru" answered many questions asked by the audience. On the second day - December 15, 2020, the moderator of the conference - N.Zh. Shaimerdenova, made a presentation on the topic: `` Russian language in the multilingual space of Kazakhstan ''. On this day Alexey Dmitrievich Shmelev, Doctor of Philology, Professor, Head of the Department of Russian Speech at the V.V. Vinogradov Russian Academy of Sciences delivered his lecture which was devoted to “Modern Russian speech: norm and usus. Coordination of linguistic norms in the era of social and cultural change. Normative Dictionary ". After the lecture, the audience were glad to ask Professor A.D. Shmelev many questions. Professor A.D. Smelev thanked everyone and said that he had never been to Kazakhstan and would be happy to visit our country.

All presentations made at the international conference were relevant, practice and theory- oriented with detailed conclusions. The conference reports showed how  S.I. Ozhegov’s ideas are implemented in scientific and practical activities.

Doctoral students of the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature and students studying the discipline `` Russian Lexicography '' received good research experience from outstanding scientists and valuable research tools.
