Republican Scientific-Research Center on “World History Studies”

       In pursuance of the paragraph of the Protocol of the expanded meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on the Study of National History, chaired by the State Secretary of the Republic of Kazakhstan, MM Tazhin based on the decision of the Academic Council of the Kazakh National University. Al-Farabi was established Research Center on “World History Studies” (protocol number 12 from June 24, 2013). The Director of the Center is a well-known scientist, a specialist in the field of World History, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of World History of Historiography and Source Studies, Honorary Professor of the University of Göttingen (Germany), Honorary Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan Zhumagulov Kalkaman Tursunovich.

The main personnel of the Center are doctors and candidates of science, PhDs, leading scientists from Italy, Germany, doctoral students, undergraduates.

The purpose of the center: to study of the development of world history based on modern methodological paradigms and tools; to show the role and place of Kazakhstan, the Turkic world and Central Asia in the world-historical process.

The tasks of the center are: comprehensive and systematic study of the problems on previously unexplored aspects in world history; implementation of the results in scientific circulation; identification of regional features of historical development taking into account geopolitical and cultural factors, the impact of modernization processes; studying the role and significance of the ideology of Eurasianism for the study of the historical processes of the Central Asian region, starting from the era of antiquity; consideration of the place and role of Hun and Turk tribal formations in world history on the basis of attracting new sources (Latin, Ancient Greek, Early German and Scandinavian) as well as the results of modern interdisciplinary research.

From 2014-2016 year the work of the Center was implemented in the framework of the program “The People in the Stream of History”. The unique materials collected in the program, published books and scientific articles, etc. are of great importance in the ideological and patriotic education of Kazakhstan's society. They will undoubtedly replenish the source and literary reserves when writing generalizing works on the history of Kazakhstan, the Turkic world, Central Asia, as well as periods of world history. New sources and literature will play a significant role in the implementation of scientific and educational activities, especially in the preparation of historians of the new generation in the framework of undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies in the Republic of Kazakhstan. At this time, starting from 2018, the Center conducts its research in the framework of the program “History and Culture of the Great Steppe”. This work will be continued until 2020.

According to the tasks set in the framework of the program “History and Culture of the Great Steppe”, research and educational work in the following areas will be the focus of the Center for the Study of World History to study the history of the Kazakh people’s state:

І. The Turkic world of Eurasia in the light of new rare Latin manuscripts of the Vatican (Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana);

ІІ. “Altyn Orda: inner and outer world. Modern theories of interpretation ";

III. The world community and Kazakhstan in the conditions of modern integration and modernization.
         Expected results: analysis and systematization of theoretical and empirical materials found in libraries and archives of the near and far abroad; the study of archival, statistical, scientific monographs, scientific processing and systematization of materials, translation of foreign sources; Publication of research results in materials of scientific conferences, in scientific journals recommended by KKSON MES RK, in scientific journals indexed in the Thomson Reuters database (ISI Web of Knowledge, Thomson Reuters) or Scopus, writing monographs; introduction of scientific results and conclusions into the educational process: writing textbooks, reading books based on the results of scientific research, developing elective courses.
All materials published by us will be important in the ideological and patriotic education of Kazakhstan society. They will undoubtedly replenish the source and literary reserve when writing summarizing works on the history of Kazakhstan and the Turkic world, as well as world history. New sources and literature will play a significant role in the implementation of scientific and educational activities, especially in the preparation of historians of the new generation in the framework of undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
