We are delighted to inform you that the department of biostatistics and evidence medicine of the Faculty of Medicine - Higher School of Public Health starts the work of  a Journal club. The scope of the Journal club is a discussion of the advanced directions in the field of  public health and medicine. The discussion will be focused on an experimental and / or review article. Our club tend to take place in an informal atmosphere so as to encourage frank and open discussion on selected topic. Anyone who is interested in modern science and who plans to continue scientific work in the near future can participate. The only condition is the desire to learn new things, investigate something new in the field of  medicine and health care.

The participants of the Journal Club would not be forced to teach anything, they will be  provided with the conditions for expanding their knowledge and will receive  an opportunity to discuss problematic and incomprehensible questions.

Objective of the journal clubs is to familiarize our students with  reading  and understanding of  scientific articles,  critically assess the strengths and weaknesses of a experimental design. We will analyze not so much the theory as the structure of modern research, we will critically evaluate each study and  we are going to plan our own research.

Meetings will be held twice monthly under the direction of dean deputy for educational and methodical work Oshisayeva Ainash.

A speaker presents an interesting article describing the goals, methods, results and scientifically substantiated conclusions of research in a reproducible, accurate and understandable form. Also he should present scientific  problem, formulate a hypothesis, justify the experimental design of the work and show the logic of the chosen design.

The main attention will be paid to the adequacy of the methods which will be used to solve  posed problem, the correctness of the conclusions given by the authors of the article, and the possibility of alternative interpretations. During the presentation, participants ask questions and express their opinion about the data and interpretations of the results obtained in the article.

The choice of articles will be done by the speaker, however, the article should be interesting not only to specialists of a narrow profile, but also to a wider audience. The text of the article discussed at the meeting of the Journal Club will be available on the faculty website. The article should be preliminarily read by all participants of the seminar.

The article will be available on the website of the faculty. Article must be read by all members of the journal club. The article should be anticipatorily read by all participants of the seminar.
