On April 14, 2018, the Medical Faculty of the Kazakh National University named after al-Farabi held a regular meeting of the Journal Club, which was the third in this academic year.

Participants of the Journal Club participated in the critical analysis of the article, because one of the fundamental elements of the critical thinking style of all students is the ability to assess the degree of reliability and significance of the information offered.

At this time, for discussion, I selected an article on the relationship between the development of myopia and the color of the iris in children. The problem of visual impairment is very relevant all over the world: 19 million children suffer from visual impairment, of which 12 million children have visual impairment due to a refraction error. In Kazakhstan, 35.9% of all schoolchildren suffer from nearsightedness, and this figure is increasing every year. All the participants of the Journal Club received a lot of experience in writing and discussing scientific articles, because if you constantly train to concentrate your thinking, you become accustomed to think in a concentrated way, and in time this becomes an internal property. The guests from the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan took an active part in the discussion.

The next meeting of the Journal Club is scheduled for April 28 (Saturday) at 14.00. An article for discussion will be provided one week before the date of the meeting. We will be glad to see you!
