Teachers of the Department of Biomedical Statistics and Evidence-Based Medicine conducted an initiative scientific study "Studying the factors of life of students of KazNU named after al-Farabi and their association with indicators of the quality of life." To collect data, a questionnaire was used in Russian and Kazakh languages from 45 questions, including sections of demographic information, smoking, including hookah and electronic cigarettes, alcohol consumption, the nature and characteristics of sleep, the nature and level of physical activity, including the use of gadgets and sports nutrition, parts of eating habits, as well as a standardized questionnaire of the overall quality of life SF-8.

Seminar on "Severe bronchial asthma: the results of the satellite symposium of the European Respiratory Society and other innovations" for general practitioners.
On April 16, 2018, chair of biomedical statistics and evidence-based medicine organized a seminar on"Severe Asthma: the results of the satellite symposium of the European Respiratory Society and other innovations" for general practitioners The seminar was conducted by Professor Nurlan Dauletbaev (Faculty of Medicine, McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada), a member of the European Respiratory Society and the American Thoracic Society, a international expert panel on systemic medicine. At the end of the seminar, the participants got an idea about the definition of severe asthma and the pathogenesis of the disease, learned about the prevalence of this form of bronchial asthma, the algorithms for differential diagnosis and the latest recommendations for its treatment, the pharmacotherapy of severe asthma, including biological therapy, non-medicament methods for treating severe asthma, personalization of diagnostics and therapy of severe asthma, which is a new trend in the field of medicine. In addition, the role of a general practitioner in detection and adequate treatment of patients with severe asthma was discussed.
Master class "Biomedical Scientific Publications" was held from April 9 to April 12, 2018. This master class was organized by the chair of biomedical statistics and evidence-based medicine. The master class was aimed to increase the publication activity of the faculty and young scientists in international peer-reviewed journals.
Publication activity is an indicator of scientific performance. At present, a large scale social project aimed at promoting the publication activities of the scientific community is being carried out under the motto “Publish or perish!.” Scientific publication activity is presently understood as work performed by scientists in order to publish their articles in scientific journals and be cited by other scientists.
