The current COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, has highlighted the urgent need for a timely exchange of practical experience and the latest scientific and technical developments between countries.
The faculty of Medicine and Health of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University has established cooperation with leading pulmonologists, virologists, and epidemiologists from Canada (McGill University) and Germany (Philipp University in Marburg) offers a series of video talks, video sessions and video stories with the world's leading experts on SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19, to exchange experience and obtain the most advanced developments in diagnosis and treatment, prevention of spread.
We present to Your attention a broadcast project on the program "Doctor-Researcher" and our first video story on the topic: "Comparison of the COVID-19 pandemic with the N1H1 pandemic of 2009".
It will be continued and our next video stories and video interviews will be on the following topics:
1/ "COVID-19 and pediatric patient". There will be a conversation with a canadian pulmonologist, the world's leading expert in the field of hereditary lung diseases. Now there is an urgent question (in Canada and other countries): when to open schools? In this regard, we plan to prepare information for pediatricians. We are sure that parents of children with asthma will contact them. This topic will inform Kazakhstani pediatricians about the latest recommendations of North American doctors. Audience: pediatricians, parents of children with lung diseases.
2/ "Immunity in COVID-19". Here we will conduct an interview with a leading German virologist who is currently testing the SARS-CoV-2 virus (the pathogen COVID-19). We will discuss the features of immunity in a new coronovirus infection. This topic is very relevant for the forecast of secondary covid-19" waves". Audience: virologists, administrative authorities, Health Management.
3/ " when does the quarantine start to help? Regression analysis on the example of China, Germany, Canada, great Britain and the USA". In this topic, we will provide mathematical modeling of how much the peak of infection depends on (a) the time of introduction of quarantine and (b) the intensity of quarantine measures. Audience: General population, administrative bodies, local Health Authorities, Ministry of health.
4 / "Comparison of COVID-19 diagnostic and treatment protocols between leading clinics in Germany, Canada and the USA". Currently, there is not a large evidence base for how best to treat COVID-19, and in what conditions (outpatient, hospital, in which hospitals, etc.). But North American medical associations are already actively working to create such an evidence base. Visiting Professor of KazNU, Professor Dauletbayev Nurlan is a member of several professional organizations and has extensive contacts with colleagues from Canada and the United States, receiving information much earlier. We plan to regularly summarize and analyze this information and give our own assessment. Audience: doctors, nurses, Ministry of health.
5/ "Features of respiratory distress syndrome in COVID-19". We are planning a conversation with a German pulmonologist, the world's leading expert in the field of respiratory distress syndromes in adults. Through German colleagues, there is access to the Association of medical researchers with a specialization in respiratory distress syndrome. The problem with COVID-19 is a large range of respiratory disorders, from very mild manifestations to extremely severe atypical pneumonia. Therefore, the collective experience of this clinical and scientific Association could be useful to Kazakhstan. Audience: doctors of intensive therapy, intensive care.
6 / "Recommendations for medical and mid-level staff to reduce the risk of disease". Unfortunately, medical personnel are more susceptible to infection. Therefore, we will show you in a video, and in Kazakh, how to work correctly with COVID-19 patients. Audience: doctors, average medical staff.
7/ "long-Term consequences of COVID-19: the need for rehabilitation and social adaptation of patients". Professional associations in North America are already raising the issue of preparing rehabilitation programs. And Kazakhstan should also prepare to overcome the consequences and long-term complications. Audience: Ministry of labor and social protection, Ministry of health, rehabilitation doctors.
