«Expo-diplomacy of détente: American exhibitions in the USSR in 1972-1979.” («America» in Almaty)» is the topic of the guest lecture by Alexey Evgenievich Fominykh. With this lecture he spoke to students of the Faculty of International Relations on September 20, 2023. The topic aroused genuine interest among the audience, and an interesting discussion took place, many questions and opinions on the period of diplomacy of the period of the “Iron Curtain” and the rapprochement between the USA and the USSR through a special form of intercultural communication - exhibitions. American and Soviet exhibitions played a kind of “virtual” role in introducing the peoples of the two systems through photographs, posters, achievements in science, technology, and culture. Of particular interest was the case «Alma-Ata 1960-1970s and US exhibitions in our city.” During the  working in the US archives Alexey Evgenievich found many iconic documents about our city that were taken by American photographers.

Fominykh A.E., candidate of political sciences, associate professor of Department of Intercultural Communication, Mari State University, Yoshkar-Ola (Russia). Fominykh A.E. is one of the few international specialists in the field of public diplomacy and intercultural communications, exploring the role of international exhibitions in bringing peoples and countries closer together, specialized in scientific institutions and universities in Russia, the USA, and Europe, and collaborates on projects with the Center for German Studies of KazNU.

On September 20, a guest lecture by Professor Paul FRYER of the University of Eastern Finland was held on the topic: "Cross-border problems: migration and diasporas". The discussion was attended by students and young scientists of the IRF, as well as Anna Novikova (University of the Basque Country, Bilbao) and Florian Koppenrath (Humboldt University, Germany).

Paul Fryer also conducted a master class on research methodology for IRF PhD students, considered issues of sustainable development and environmental migration, problems of transboundary rivers and regional issues of cooperation.

Paul FRYER, Professor of the Department of Geographical and Historical Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business at the University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu, collaborates within the framework of projects of the Center for German Studies, also is a scientific consultant to the PhD student of the IRF.

As part of the implementation of SDG targets (Goal 4: Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all) on September 20, 2023 at the Faculty of International Relations of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University was held a book exhibition entitled “International Relations and World Literature.” During this event book products from the «Steppe & World Publishing» publishing house were put on display for readers. At the end of the exhibition, the director and editor-in-chief of the said publishing house, Raisa Kadyr and Nazgul Kozhabek, who were invited as special guests, held a meeting with the leadership and students of the Faculty of International Relations. During the conversation, representatives of «Steppe & World Publishing» spoke about the situation in the field of book publishing in Kazakhstan, and also answered all questions of interest to the audience.

On May 15-16, the Department of Economics and International Business of the Buketov Karaganda University held the VI International Distance Olympiad on the World Economy in order to improve the quality of training of qualified specialists and promote the professional growth of gifted students. The winners were 3rd year students of the World Economy specialty of the Faculty of International Relations of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Orynbekova Aiganym, Oser Dias, Appaz Nurmukhammed under the scientific supervision of PhD Khamzayeva A.V.

The Department of Diplomatic Translation at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University's Faculty of International Relations hosted the international scientific and practical conference "Central Asia - Europe: Crossed Views on Women in Politics" from April 11 to 12, 2023, with the participation of the MIMMOC Laboratory from the University of Poitiers (France).

The conference's goal is to investigate the role of women in politics in Western and Central Asia.

On April 6, 2023, Spanish Language Olympiad was held among students of the 2-3 courses of the Faculty of International Relations organized by teachers of Spanish Zhanuzakova G. A. and Lopez A. A.

On April 3, 2023, an open round table was held on the topic: “Legal culture in different professions” with 1st year masters of the specialty 7M 02304 “Translation in the field of international and legal relations” of the Faculty of International Relations of al-Farabi Kazakh National University Tastanova R., Muratbek N. 

On March 31, Diplomatic translation department held a public lecture by well-known translator, economist. Graduate of Harvard University Shyngys Mukan on the topic of “Life mission – Road to Success”.
