Central Asian Freshwater Fishes - IUCN Red List Review Workshop

March 2-4, 2020 at the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University with the support of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Species Conservation Commission (SSC), freshwater fish conservation specialists (FFSG) and financial With help from TOYOTA Corporation, an international workshop was held on the conservation of the diversity of indigenous fish species in Central Asia.

The main reports were made by associate professor N.Sh. Mamilov (KazNU), professors Jörg Freyhof (Leibniz Institute of Natural History and Systematics, University of Berlin, Germany), Nina Bogutskaya (Museum of Natural History, Vienna, Austria), B.K. Karimov (Institute of Water Problems, Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan). The conference was attended by representatives of the Scientific and Production Center of Fisheries (Almaty), the Institute of Zoology of the MES of the Republic of Kazakhstan, doctoral students and students of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. During the seminar, urgent conservation problems and the current state of diversity of native ichthyofauna were discussed, and the state of individual fish species on a global scale was assessed. After the seminar, on March 5-6, 2020, invited foreign professors gave lectures and conducted master classes for specialists and students of the specialty "Fisheries and Commercial Fisheries" studying at KazNU.
