As part of the program for the integration of research institutes with universities, initiated by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, on April 5, 2022, a meeting was held between employees of the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology (IPBB), headed by the director, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Zhambakin K.Zh. with students of al-Farabi KazNU.

2nd year students of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, specializing in the educational program "6B050103 Biotechnology-NIS" under the guidance of Associate Professor of the Department of Biotechnology, Ph.D. Turasheva S.K. visited laboratories and got acquainted with the activities of scientists of the institute. During the meeting with future employers, students learned about the directions of the Institute's activities, about the current state of science, about scientific projects, about joint international projects with collaborators from foreign scientific centers. The students were told about the achievements of laboratories, scientific developments, patents, commercialization of scientific projects and biotechnological products obtained in the laboratories of the Institute.

The students visited the greenhouse where they grow new unusual forms of plants, new varieties of grain and vegetable crops, seedlings of woody plants obtained by modern biotechnological methods, saw a cryobank of germplasm of rare plant species. The collection of endemic plants maintained in in vitro culture aroused great interest among the students. They were also interested in the possibility of internships in well-known foreign research centers, because NIS graduate students are fluent in English and, thanks to the knowledge that teachers give them within the walls of the university, they are familiar with many areas in the biotechnology of plants and animals, microorganisms, as well as in the field of molecular technologies and environmental biotechnology.

The meeting turned out to be very useful, informative and demonstrative, as the students not only learned a lot about the modern achievements of Kazakh scientists in the field of plant biotechnology, but also saw with their own eyes real technological developments in action, on the field and in the greenhouse, and they proudly say that biotechnological research are well developed in Kazakhstan, thanks to the dedicated work and professionalism of domestic scientists.
