General information about SIU
SIU is Norway’s national centre of expertise for the internationalisation of education. SIU is responsible for the operation and development of a broad range of policy instruments and its unique position enables SIU to build relationships and take advantage of synergies between different focus areas, programmes and measures. A continued emphasis on internationalisation is important in the effort to improve quality in Norwegian education
In the framework of the SIU Eurasian project, held an international seminar at the Biology and Biotechnology Faculty al-Farabi Kazakh National University from November 27, 2017 till November 29, 2017. The aim of workshop to develop a future educational project: "Extending the Eurasia Network for Higher Education in Microbiology" in cooperation with partners from Norway, The Republic of Armenia, The Republic of Georgia, The Republic of Tajikistan and The Kyrgyz Republic.

In 2018, the staff of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology won a project on the topic «Network for research-based higher education in microbial biotechnology»
The aim of the project is to modernize the course "Microbial biotechnology"
The source of funding for the project is «The Norwegian Center for International Cooperation in Education (SIU)»

Expected output
This project aims at strengthening of educational programs in microbial biotechnology in the Central Asian/Eurasian region. One important task is to develop a new "Microbial Biotechnology" lab course (5 ECTS) in Kazakhstan. Furthermore, we will upgrade laboratory facilities, improve and prepare new teaching material, educate Master and PhD students in an international environment.

Kick-off meeting of partners in Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek and Issyk-kul)
A network kick-off meeting with partner’s participants from 6 countries meeting was held in Kyrgyzstan from 29 to 31st August 2018. The purpose of the kick-off meeting was discussion of the implementation of the project. Important activities were planned within the project, including a plan for student and teacher mobility, as well as ways to modernize the Microbial Biotechnology course.
