The Department of Biotechnology is extending international cooperation

Promoting scientific partnerships for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is crucial for addressing global challenges and achieving sustainable development. Interdisciplinary collaboration is one of the key aspects of fostering scientific partnerships for SDGs aimed to encourage collaboration across diverse scientific disciplines to address the complex and interconnected nature of the SDGs, foster partnerships between natural and social sciences, technology, engineering, and other relevant fields to develop comprehensive solutions, encourage the development and application of advanced technologies to address specific SDGs, such as sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and healthcare.

The faculty's scientists are actively engaged in international cooperation aimed at achieving the 17th Sustainable Development Goal. Thus, within the framework of the scientific visit, held from December 11 to December 19, 2023, the executors of the project AR 19676645 "Biotechnology of the production of biologically active peptides of whey proteins of mare's milk" Narmuratova M.H., Deputy Head of the Department of Biotechnology on scientific-innovative activity and international cooperation, and Meldebekova A.A., Senior Lecturer of the Department of Biotechnology, and doctoral student of the Department of Biophysics, Biomedicine and Neuroscience G.Kh. Narmuratova discussed the future prospects of international cooperation between two faculties of the University of Putra Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) – the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering and the Department of Biotechnology of al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

THE FUTURE PROSPECTS OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION BETWEEN THE FACULTY OF NATURAL SCIENCES OF THE TOKYO UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND THE FACULTY OF BIOLOGY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY OF AL-FARABI KAZAKH NATIONAL UNIVERSITY WERE DISCUSSED

To achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 17, aimed at fostering international partnerships, the faculty actively engages in international cooperation. One such meeting took place on October 23-24, 2023, during a working visit by Professor Tatsuya Tomo from the Faculty of Science division at the Tokyo University of Science to Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The NATO MYP G6094 project «Mitigation of climate change through Advanced Phytotechnology for military lands (MilClimATech)»

Project implementation period: September 27, 2023 - September 26, 2026.

Al-Farabi KazNU as part of the implementation of the UN SDG goal #13 (Taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts) serving as a connecting university in the NATO-funded project NATO MYP G6094 titled "Mitigation of climate change through advanced phytotechnologies for military lands (MilClimATech)" for 2023-2026 years.

An online meeting was held with the participation of the main executor of the project, Professor of the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem Dr. Valentina Pidlisnyuk, as well as Dr. Andrey Hertz from the V. Hnatyuk Ternopil National Pedagogical University (TNPU) in Ukraine.

Рrospective project collaborations between Shaanxi University of Technology and Science and the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Al-Farabi KazNU were discussed

The meeting between Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi KazNU Kurmanbaeva M.S. and Professor of Shaanxi University of Technology and Science (Xi'an, China) Jian Zha took place from September 25 to September 28, 2023. During the meeting, they discussed prospective project collaborations between Shaanxi University of Technology and Science and the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Al-Farabi KazNU and identified opportunities for master's and doctoral students to participate in scientific internships. In addition, Professor Jian Zha presented a lecture entitled "Metabolic engineering of E.coli for the production of anthocyanin" and shared his microbiology and molecular biology expertise.

Negotiations to extend the Double Degree Program in BioWare (Master's) with ENSAIA

On September 12, negotiations were held with the management of ENSAIA University regarding the extension of the Double Degree Program in BioWare (Master's) between ENSAIA University and Biotechnology (Master's) at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Annually, six master's students undergo training as part of the Abai-Vern program at ENSAIA. They undertake a one-year education in the city of Nancy and also complete their practical training in leading scientific institutions and production enterprises in France.

AID TO THE STRENGTHENING OF THE CHINESE-KAZAKHSTAN COOPERATION OF THE FACULTY OF BIOLOGY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY

From September 7 to 14, 2023, scientists from the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (TIB CAS) visited the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

During this visit, the Chief Coordinator of the Bio-Agriculture TIB CAS group, Professor Zhiyong Huang, and Associate Professor Jingjing Wang met with the Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology M. S. Kurmanbaeva, where the prospects for cooperation and exchange of experience in the field of biotechnology were discussed.
