Award to the best and worthy: Professor Anatoly Timofeevich Ivashchenko awarded the silver medal of al-Farabi

February 6, 2019 marks the 75th anniversary of the birth of Doctor of Biological Sciences Anatoly Timofeevich Ivashchenko.

Professor A.T.Ivashchenko headed the Department of Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Plant Physiology at the Faculty of Biology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University from 1999 to 2009.

Versatile interests of А.Т. Ivashchenko reflected in the development of many scientific fields. His students defended their dissertations in specialties of biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology, bioinformatics, plant physiology, microbiology, many of them are working abroad now. For the first time in the CIS, under his scientific supervision, 3 PhD dissertations in the specialty "Bioinformatics" were defended. Two doctoral students defended PhD theses in France and Israel.

Along with the intensive scientific and practical activities of A.T.Ivashchenko has a great organizational and social work. A.T.Ivashchenko was a member of the All-Union Society of Biochemists, the All-Union Society of Geneticists, the All-Union Society of Biophysicists, the All-Union Society of Botanists, the All-Union Society of Geneticists and Breeders. For many years he worked as a member of the commission for awarding the State Prizes of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of science and technology.

In 2002, he was awarded the badge "For merits in the development of science of the Republic of Kazakhstan". He is twice winner of the competition "The best teacher of the university."

The Kazakhstani School of Bioinformatics, well known in the Republic and abroad, was established by Professor Ivashchenko A.T.

The result of his fruitful scientific activities are more than 400 publications, including more than 150 in international journals, of which about 90 published in journals with a high impact factor.

According to the Scival database publications of A.T.Ivashchenko in the field of genome transcripts are currently among the top 1% of the world’s important ones.

Professor A.T.Ivashchenko is a highly cited scientist. Hirsch index in Scopus database of professor A.T.Ivashchenko is 6, the total number of citations is 119, number of all publications in the Scopus database is 67.

In 2015-2018, Ivashchenko A.T. held a leading positions in the top 50 teachers in the university ranking.

Taking into account the great merits of Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor of the Department of Biotechnology Ivashchenko Anatoly Timofeevich in the development of science and education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University awards him with a silver medal named "Al-Farabi".

The Silver medal “For Special Merits for the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University” was established in 2009. By tradition, for the past 10 years, this award has been awarded to the most worthy scientists, teachers and university staff.
