The lectures by Nikolai Vukov and Marina Potemkina

On December 13, 2021, the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held the lectures of visiting scholars - Professor Nikolai Vukov, PhD, Head of Department “Anthropology of Verbal Traditions” – Institute ofEthnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and Professor Potemkina Marina, Leading Researcher of the Laboratory of Actual History and Media of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (Moscow), Head of the Department of World History of Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University. While Professor Vukov touched upon the topic «History, Memory, Heritage: The Communist Period and Its Aftermaths», Professor Potemkina discussed issues related to the theme “World War II in an Anthropological Dimension”.
In their speeches, Bulgarian and Russian scientists focused on deep problems and widely discussed the course of the Second World War and the Cold War. They analyzed the further life, destinies and experiences of people in the conditions of war in the post-war years, as well as the legacy of the memory and monuments of the socialist era and later, their general and scientific thoughts, heroes and structures of the totalitarian era.
The meeting was held at a very high level and aroused great interest among the participants.
