With the new 2017-2018 academic year, prof. orientational work at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics. September 7 in the cities of Astana and Almaty (on the basis of our faculty KazNU after al-Farabi) was the Iranian IV Olympiad in geometry.

The participants of the competition were met by the dean of the faculty, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor MA Bektemesov. Summarizing the history of the Olympiad, Maktagali Abdimajitovich congratulated the participants on the start of the competition and wished everyone good luck. The first time the Iranian Olympiad in geometry was held in 2014. Assignments of the Olympiad were sent to the participating countries for a week and the contestants of these countries could remotely participate in the Olympiad. If only ten countries took part in the first year, then at the third international tournament the number of participating countries increased to thirty.

Participants were divided into three groups (league), depending on their age. In the first league 162 pupils of 7-8 classes, II league 101 pupils of 9th and 10th grades and 40 pupils of 11th and 12th forms in III league. The participants of the competition are: the Republican Specialized Physics and Mathematics Boarding School (Almaty), Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools (Almaty, Aktobe), No. 165, 178, 175 Almaty, Altyn Bakyr, Sh. Smagulov, No. 178, 39 secondary schools, school-lyceums of Taraz and Talgar. The number of applicants for prizes, showing a positive result in each league, is 83, II-72 and III-5 respectively.
