In the new academic year, all students of our faculty are fully transferred to distance learning online. Due to the small number of undergraduates and doctoral students, they are studying offline now. However, taking into account the applications of most undergraduates, from today undergraduates have moved to the system of distant online education.
On September 11, 2020, at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Al-Farabi KazNU an annual event “Meeting between Sonbe and Hube” (meeting-acquaintance of students of the Department of Korean Studies) was held for students of the Department of Korean Studies of the Department of the Far East. In the event was attended by all students of the department, graduates of The Department of the Far East, who work abroad (LG company, Poland), alumni who studying under the GKS grant program in South Korea, graduates of the Double Master Degree Program, and students from South Korean universities.
The annual international conference "Lectures of the Silk Road" was held online 9-13, September 2020. The conference was organized by the International Center for Biological Anthropology of the Silk Road in China, the Institute of One Road - One Belt and Global Management at Fudan University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Tashkent National Oriental University and Bishkek Humanities University.
On September 10, 2020, a Leadership lecture was held on the topic "5 tips from a graduate of KazNU" on the ZOOM online platform under the guidance of advisers Zhansaya Toktarova and Elina Kim. 1st year students took part in it and the speaker was Kairakhmetov Rustam, a graduate of 2018, the Department of Korean Studies of the Faculty of the Far East. Rustam works in Moscow at Samsung Electronics as a leading specialist in the engineering and technology department.
As part of the celebration of the International Day of the Hindi Language, the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center at the Embassy of the Republic of India in Kazakhstan, along with the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi KazNU, organized a Hindi Language Competition in two nominations: a poetry competition and an essay competition. Students of Indian studies department of our university, also by young people who studied in various specialties in India itself as well as Indian amateurs who study Hindi at the Embassy of India attended the competition. Moreover valuable was the victory of our students in various nominations!
On September 3, 2020, the faculty of Oriental studies of al-Farabi Kazakh National University held a meeting with PhD students in compliance with quarantine measures.
The opening speech was made by the Dean of the faculty of Oriental studies Paltore Y., who congratulated the doctoral students of the 1st year of study and presented them to the management of the faculty.
An online meeting for 1st year students was organized under the guidance of the Dean of the faculty of Oriental studies Ikhtiyar Paltore on 1 September 2020.
In his welcoming speech, the dean of the faculty congratulated the young people on their admission to the ranks of students and expressed the hope that they, in turn, will study well and become a versatile person.
First of all, specific tasks were explained for the students during the meeting. Also, having personally acquainted the heads of the departments of the faculty with the students, the dean noted that each student will work remotely with advisers of groups in the chosen language at the departments. The heads of the department also congratulated the 1st year students and expressed their wishes.
On September 2, 2020, an online meeting of the academic teaching staff of the Turksoy department Faculty of Oriental Studies with the students of the first year was held. During the meeting, the head of the department U.T. Kydyrbaeva, deputy head of the department for teaching and methodological and educational part K.B. Zhanataeva, deputy head for scientific and innovative work and international relations E.A. Montanay introduced first-year students admitted to the department by the teaching staff and the work process of the department.

May 30 at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University at the Faculty of Oriental Studies celebrated Alumni Day. This year’s event is unique because it was held online because of the negative situation in the country. Despite these reasons, Alumni Day was celebrated with special preparation and high spirits.
