On February 28, 2024, at the Department of Biotechnology, Senior Lecturer Omirbekova A.A., together with master's students of educational programs 7M05109 Biotechnology and 7M05116 Microbiology, conducted a round table discussion on the topic "Reducing Maternal Mortality and Infant Mortality" within the framework of the SDG 3. GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING. The aim of the event was to familiarize master's students with a program aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality through the implementation of modern evidence-based approaches. Issues aimed at reducing mortality rates were discussed, namely the Program to Reduce Maternal and Child Mortality in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the State Healthcare Development Program of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2020-2025.

A presentation was given depicting the current state of mortality rates in Kazakhstan. It was noted that "Maternal mortality is one of the sensitive indicators of the healthcare system. Since 2000, the world has seen higher rates of accelerated reduction in the maternal mortality rate, at 5.5% per year, and in Kazakhstan, at 6.2%. In Kazakhstan, over the past 10 years, maternal mortality has decreased by 2.4 times (from 36.8 per 100,000 live births in 2009 to 13.7 in 2019)." It was also noted that maternal mortality tripled during the COVID-19 pandemic.
