Discussion platform on the topic: GMO - Pros and cons (Role-playing game).

On February 14, 2024, teachers of the Department of Biotechnology Mamytova N.S. and Voronova N. V. held a business game with 2nd year students of the English group specializing in "6B05103 – Biotechnology" educational event (business game) on the topic: "GMO Pros and cons." The event was held according to the schedule of the Roadmap of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology for SDG 2 – eliminating hunger. The purpose of the event: the formation of knowledge on the criteria of risks or positive effects in connection with the use of genetically modified products, their importance for the human body, current trends in rationalization of nutrition and environmental ecology. The expected results are to analyze the research of scientists who advocate and oppose genetically modified foods to assess the results of their impact on human life and health.

During the business game, which was conducted in English, the students, divided into two teams, as scientists, defenders and opponents of GMOs, discussed their harm and benefits, because scientific disputes do not subside all over the world, and this issue is clearly not closed, given that according to world statistics, the share of genetically modifiedmodified products are growing every year. Moreover, the developments of genetic engineers in this area affect not only food, but also many areas of human activity. After a series of reports and demonstrations of presentations, an active discussion and opposition of the teams on this topic unfolded. A lively discussion arose about the situation in the confrontation between scientists, supporters and opponents of GMOs in the world. The issues of GMOs that can harm health in the form of allergic diseases, etc. were discussed.  reactions, about socio-environmental risks, about the use of organisms obtained through biotechnology, the production of medicines, whether GMOs solve the food problem, the elimination of hunger, etc. The students discussed with great interest the prospects for the development and expediency of creating and using GMOs in modern conditions of biotechnology, agriculture and other industries.
