"Sustainable Development Goals: Conservation of marine ecosystems"

On February 7, 2023, at 14.00, 3rd year students of the BT20-02 group of thespecialty "6B070103 - Biotechnology" of the Department of Biotechnology of the Faculty ofBiology and Biotechnology and curator of the group, professor Atabayeva S.D. held a
curatorial hour on the topic: "Sustainable Development Goals: Conservation of marineecosystems"The purpose of the event: To discuss the problems of the ecological state of marineecosystems in the world, and in Kazakhstan, in particular; to develop a sense of responsibility forthe consequences of environmental disasters, of an anthropogenic nature, for finding solutions toproblems using a scientific and practical approach, using modern scientific achievements.The students prepared a presentation dedicated to discussing the consequences ofenvironmental disasters of marine ecosystems in the world and in Kazakhstan and ways ofscientific and practical solutions to this problem.The students prepared a presentation dedicated to discussing the consequences ofenvironmental disasters of marine ecosystems in the world and in Kazakhstan and ways ofscientific and practical solutions to this problem. The students spoke about the importance of theWorld Ocean, its ecological functions as a source of oxygen, the richness of marine resourcesand the regulator of global climate, noted the adverse effects of climate change, marine pollution,highlighted the problem of the formation of a large Pacific garbage patch in the North PacificOcean, about the pollution of the world ocean with microplastics and the development ofCanadian, Australian scientists cleaning with electrolytes and magnetic nanotubes. It wasdiscussed a large-scale international project of the organization "The Ocean Cleanup", which hasdeveloped and improved the technology of cleaning the ocean from garbage using nets. Theydiscussed the problems of Kazakhstan's water systems, the shallowing of the Caspian Sea,Balkhash, etc., the causes and solutions, the tasks of biotechnologists in solving environmentalproblems to clean up aquatic ecosystems.
