A gift from an American Professor to the al-Farabi Library

On January 18 this year, an important ceremony of awarding the collection of books on world history, history and culture of Eurasia and the Middle East from the Professor's personal library to the al-Farabi Library of the Kazakh National University was held. This number includes monographs, scientific collections with publications of Professor M. Tolmacheva.
For example, the publication of a pre-colonial chronicle of the East African city Pate (Kenya), which she translated into English from swahali. Of interest is the articles of Marina Tolmacheva about the wives, concubines and children of the greatest traveler of the middle ages Ibn Battut (XIV century), included in the collective monographs on the history of the medieval East.
The collection also includes the latest publications, including translations into Russian of medieval Arabic novels and poetry. Important among the books donated by the Professor were scientific publications about outstanding Russian Orientalists.
Her personal choice was Yakov Kumok's book about her great-grandfather, Alexander Petrovich Karpinsky, the first elected President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (later USSR Academy of Sciences), known as the Father of Russian Geology.
Books on the history, culture of Africa, Saudi Arabia or Kuwait, where Professor Tolmacheva worked for more than four years, will also be useful for students of humanitarian specialties.
In addition, Professor M. Tolmacheva transferred to the library a collection of 200 American films from "Hollywood classics". Possession of these commercial collections will allow teachers and students of KazNU to improve the English, study the history of the film industry and get acquainted with the screen versions of literary classics.
