The role of the Huns in the history of Eurasia

At the Faculty of History, Archeology and Ethnology Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Academician, Director of the Republic Scientific-Research Center on World History Studies K.T. Zhumagulov conducted the lecture in German for the students of the University of Salzburg, Austria on the topic «Die Rolle der Hunnen in der Geschichte Eurasiens» (The role of the Huns in the history of Eurasia).
In the course of his lecture, the professor, along with fresh factual materials, focused on theoretical and methodological issues. For the first time in Kazakhstani historiography and historiography of the post-Soviet period, he gave a new periodization of the history of the ancient world and the Middle Ages, indicating that it was the Great Migration of Peoples initiated by the Huns in the 70s years of IV b.c. which was a turning point in the history of Eurasia and Europe. Especially Professor K.T. Zhumagulov focused on the interpretation of issues related to the famous Battle of Catalaun in 451 attracting new source materials in Latin and Early Germanic languages. The lecturer spoke in detail and clearly on the fresco, which he discovered in 2014 in the Vatican, depicting the historic meeting of the Hun ruler Attila and Pope Leo I of Rome. The description of this fresco was given by Kalkaman Zhumagulov by the first time.
During the lecture, the lecturer gave some unique Latin manuscripts from the rare collections of Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana. At the end of the lecture, the professor answered the students' questions of interest. The audience listened with great interest and applauded the lecturer.
