On September 8, a webinar by first-year doctoral students Taskuzhina Aisha and Kenzhebekova Roza was held online on the Zoom platform, dedicated to eliminating hunger, ensuring food security, improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agricultural development.

During the webinar, doctoral students presented reports and talked about the potential of their research to solve the above problems.

Kenzhebekova Roza is studying potato viruses and viroids, and Taskuzhina Aisha is studying the genetic potential and phytopathological status of wild apple trees.

Their work is of great practical value for modern agriculture; it will increase the yield of local potato varieties and create new varieties of apple trees that are resistant to unfavorable conditions.

Both doctoral students conduct their research under the guidance of the head of the laboratory of molecular biology of the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology, PhD Dilyara Aleksandrovna Gritsenko.

On May 28, 2023, at the Academic Council of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, the dean presented Thanksgiving letters for active participation in the life of the faculty and the department. Thanksgiving letters were received by the head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics Zh.K. Zhunusbayeva, senior lecturers A.V. Lovinskaya, A.I. Zhussupova, A.D. Serbayeva.

Teachers of H.Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University took advanced training courses "Molecular Biology" and "Genetics" on the basis of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics.

On April 22, 2023, on the International Mother Earth Day, the administration, staff, teachers, and students of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in a citywide subbotnik day.

In total, 46 theses were received in 3 sections "Actual problems of genetics, molecular biology and ecology", which was organized by the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, of which 2 theses were from the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Masters student of the Institute of the Molecular and Biotechnologies, 3 abstracts from Tashkent pharmaceutical institute, Institute of Genetics and Plants Experimental Biology Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, 5 abstracts from KazNMU named after S.D. Asfendiyarov, 36 abstracts from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

On March 30, 2023, the lecturer of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics - Candidate of Biological Sciences, associate professor Zhumabayeva Beibitgul Akimalievna was awarded the medal "Eren enbegi usin". She also received Thankgiving letters from the "Parasat" trade union.

On March 1, 2023, an open event of the English Club for International Women's Day was held (organizers: Lovinskaya A.V., Zhusupova A.I., Serbaeva A.D.). As part of the event "The First Day of Women's History", an online meeting was held with a journalist, human rights activist, project manager of the PF "Erkindik Kanaty" Dana Buralkiyeva. During the meeting, issues such as the main milestones of women's empowerment, factors contributing to the growth of women's influence in education and society were touched upon.

Lovinskaya Anna Vladimirovna, PhD, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, received the title of "Best University Teacher" in 2022. The award took place in Astana on February 24, 2023.
