KAZNU CELEBRATED THE 90TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ACADEMICIAN

             Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a number of festive events dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR and the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an outstanding mechanical scientist, a well-known state and public figure, a major organizer of science and higher education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Honored Scientist of the Kazakh SSR, laureate of the State Prize of the Kazakh SSR Umirbek Arslanovich Dzholdasbekov. Academician U. A. Dzholdasbekov is a unique person who laid the foundations for the development of higher education in Kazakhstan.

In 1970, at the age of 39, Umirbek Arslanovich was appointed rector of the largest and oldest university – the Kazakh State University named after S. M. Kirov. During the period of his leadership, the university became one of the best in the USSR and was recognized by the world community of universities. His name is directly connected with the new specialties and scientific directions that prepare students. Laboratories, departments, research centers and the National Engineering Academy of Kazakhstan were also created under the leadership of the scientist. In his time, a unique campus was founded and built – the KazNU campus, which became a symbol of students in Kazakhstan and a symbol of science and education in Kazakhstan in the world community. 

Events related to the 90th anniversary of the academician began with the laying of flowers at the monument to the scientist in front of the Palace of Students named after Umirbek Dzholdasbekov, located in KazNU. The ceremony was attended by the university staff, relatives of the scientist, his students, state and public figures, and invited guests.
