Australia - so near, yet so far

On November 20, 2018, a meeting of the university staff and students with the representatives of the Australian Embassy to the Republic of Kazakhstan (with residence in Moscow), in particular, Mr. Dion Hallpike, First Secretary of the Embassy, Nina Mitropolskaya, Senior Business Development Manager of the the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and Mrs. Natalia Chudinovskikh, analyst at the Australian Embassy in Moscow was held at the Faculty of International Relations of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The meeting has been possible thanks to the personal initiative of the Australian Embassy. Representatives of the Australian Embassy have got acquainted with the University activities and were impressed by the university progress in world rankings, campus development trends and international university cooperation.

       Mr. Dion Hallpike, First Secretary of the Australian Embassy, ​​delivered keynote lecture to the students of the Faculty of International Relations on the topic “Australia in Today’s World”. Students with great interest listened to the lecture and asked many questions about current Australia’s foreign policy and bilateral relations between our states.

       Mr. Dion Hallpike has noted students’ English proficiency and sufficient knowledge of today’s Australia and world politics.

       During the meeting, prospects for establishing cooperation between universities in Australia and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in science and humanitarian knowledge were outlined and the possibilities of introducing joint degree programs were considered.
