On August 26-28, 2022, within the framework of the pilot project on the revival of active mountain routes between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, initiated by KazAlpinClab (RK) and KATO (KR), with the support of members of the government, deputies, the diplomatic corps, authorized tourist authorities, the directorate of the State Enterprise "Kolsai Lakes", public tourist organizations, cross-border crossings along the routes took place: Almaty – Kolsai Lakes – Sarybulak – Balbai village and Almaty – Big Almaty Lake – Ozerny - Aksu Severny – Chon-Aksu S.Grigoryevka.The Kazakh National University as part of the pilot group was represented by teachers of the Department of Recreational Geography and Tourism Artemyev A.M. and Beisakhmet A.A. The team successfully carried out a pedestrian crossing over the Sarybulak (3250 m above sea level) and returned to Almaty on August 29.The result of the pilot transition, in addition to working out formal procedures, are new professional contacts, ideas for joint organization of scientific research in the field of eco-tourism, improvement of mutual understanding between government agencies and the tourist community of neighboring states. There is still a lot of work to be done to make the routes "work", as it was before 2009 (when the training practice in the form of a training hike along the Northern Tien Shan was completed in SOL KazNU on Lake Issyk-Kul), but a good start has been made and there is confidence that the goals of the project will be achieved.
