In Kazakhstan, from March 1, 2024, there will be only one time zone: the 5th time zone (UTC+5).

The newspaper “Egemen Qazaqstan” published a detailed interview with the President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev. The head of state discussed issues of domestic and foreign policy, the socio-economic development of the country, the events of January 2022, problems of domestic violence, as well as the construction of nuclear power plants and other relevant topics.

From September 23 to 24, 2023, the annual “Golden Autumn” rally took place near the Ile River in Tamgaly Tas. Two teams from the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (Department of Recreation Geography and Tourism, Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences) took part in the event: “Tourism Power” and “ZhasTour”. Based on the results of all stages, the teams of our university took prizes: the “Tourism Power” team – 2nd place; the “ZhasTur” team – 3rd place.

As part of leisure work with students for many years, the Recreation Geography and Tourism Department of the Geography and Environmental Sciences Faculty organizes weekend trips for university students on a regular basis. Hiking is one of the few activities that promises a lot of fun and entertainment. On September 17, 2023, a weekend hike to the Gorelnik waterfall was held for KazNU students. Under the guidance of trainers Beisakhmet A.A. and Mominov S.A. 37 students took part in the hike (26 first-year students, 8 second-year students, 3 third-year students).

On September 16, 2023, the Recreation Geography and Tourism Department of the of Geography and Environmental Sciences Faculty of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in the environmental campaign “World Cleanup Day” on the territory of the Almaty State Nature Reserve. The visit to the reserve was organized by senior teacher A.A. Zhakupova. Such visits to its territory are carried out regularly in order for students to study the work features of specially protected natural areas of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of the discipline “Geography of Tourism of Kazakhstan”. This day, 20 students and employees of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, in addition to the usual visit program, took part in the environmental campaign “World Cleanup Day”.

As part of the Address of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the People of Kazakhstan, a series of curatorial hours were held at the Department of Recreational Geography and Tourism from September 4 to September 9, 2023.

Students of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (Department of Recreation Geography and Tourism, Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences) have resumed conducting the visiting tours in the university campus for schoolchildren, residents and guests of the Almaty city. The program includes: a visit to the Al-Farabi Museum, the Al-Farabi Library, the Keremet Student Service Center and other objects.

On the 20^th of April at the Department of Recreational Geography and Tourism of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held a competition “Project Battle”, organized by 2nd-year students of the educational program “Restaurants and Hospitality Business” under the guidance of Department Lecturer Yeldar Nuruly. This event was organized within the framework of the discipline “Hospitality Marketing”. The main aim of the event was to form professional competencies of students and consolidate specific practical skills in the field of marketing by preparing their projects, their presentation and defense in front of the audience.

On March 27, teaching staff and students of the Department of Recreational Geography and Tourism conducted an introductory tour of the KazNU campus for schoolchildren from Yakutia, potential students of our university in the future.During the tour, the guests were introduced to the history of KazNU, with the infrastructure units of the university. Great interest was aroused by acquaintance with the university library, a visit to the KazNU History Museum, as well as the Keremet Data Center.In the recruiting department, the guys were given a complete layout about the rules of admission to our university, answered all their questions, distributed visual material – brochures, booklets and notebooks and calendars with KazNU symbols were presented as a souvenir of our university.At the end of the meeting, the guests thanked the organizers for a meaningful tour of the KazNU campus and the opportunity to get acquainted with the university.
