On December 1, 1996, the Department of recreational geography and tourism was established at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, which has become the sacred center of the Kazakh people, at the prestigious faculty of Geography and Environmental Management, in order to train specialists in the tourism industry of Kazakhstan. The main goal of the department is the development of the tourism sector, which is increasingly focused in the country, training specialists who will protect the interests of the state in the future and provide high – quality services to domestic and foreign guests.
The department teaches highly qualified teachers with differentiated qualifications and experience.
When the formation of the tourism industry in Kazakhstan is just beginning, the training of tourist specialists in all modern areas is considered within the scientific, design and survey, organizational and managerial and pedagogical framework.


The purpose of the future specialists of the tourism industry trained at the Department:
Modernization, modernization and development of the domestic tourism industry as one of the leading sectors of the economy of Kazakhstan.

Development of socio-economic policy of the state in the field of Tourism and Recreation.

Determination of the natural and full tourist and recreational potential of the country and its territories.

Development of schemes for the development of tourism in the regions, development of scientific concepts for the organization and management of Tourism.
