On February 22-23, 2023, the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis and Petrochemistry of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University holds an international subject Olympiad in the discipline "Physical Chemistry", dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Honorary Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Khabibulla Kussainovich Ospanov.

In Address to the people of Kazakhstan, dated September 01, 2022, President K. Tokayev noted that it is necessary to continue reforms in the field of higher education.

In January 2023, the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis and Petrochemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held the International Winter School "Innovations in Education". 118 teachers from higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan took part in the work of the winter school.

The accession of Kazakhstan to the Bologna process ensures the expansion of Kazakhstan's relations in the field of higher education with universities both near and far abroad.

Yergozhin, the developer of the online course "Learning to learn", teacher-trainer Eskendir Bestai conducted a training session on the topic: "Career management: how to draw up a professional development plan?" for teaching staff, doctoral students and undergraduates of the faculty.

On January 26, 2023, the student chapter "SPE of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University" was accorded the 2022 Presidential Award for Outstanding Student Chapter. This award was awarded to only 5% of the highest-ranked 5% of eligible chapters which stood out amongst nearly 400 student chapters in the world. Our section has received this award for the second year in a row. The student chapter "SPE of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University" emerged as one of the 17 best, whose programmes, activities, professional development, operations, community involvement, member engagement and levels of participation distinguished them from the rest. At the invitation of the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made an official visit to France on 29-30 November 2022. The presidents emphasized the priority nature of cooperation in the field of education, and also supported the increase of student mobility, in particular by increasing the number of scholarships under the "Abay-Vern" program and expanding the list of French universities under the "Bolashak" program.

In this regard, on January 25 this year, a videoconference was held with representatives of the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis and Petrochemistry of the French University Lyon 1 Claude Bernard Professor Peter Gukian and Professor Shashank Mishra. During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of important issues on a contract between the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Technology Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi and the University Lyon 1 Claude Bernard on the educational program Petrochemistry - 7M07101 for master's degree.

Joint and simultaneous development of education and professional orientation are the key drivers of effective interaction between educational organizations. Implementation of innovations in the scientific and educational sphere of activity contributes to the development of new forms of interaction and forms mutually beneficial ties, as the University of Lyon is in the subject ranking in the top 200 universities, the top 20 universities in France and in the top 400 universities in the world in terms of quality of education. 

On January 20-21, 2023, a scientific and practical conference «Development of research in universities as a necessary condition for the innovative development of Kazakhstan" was held at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

One of the main goals of education is the preservation and transfer of a prosperous planet to future generations. To this end, it is necessary to pay attention to «The concept of sustainable development», which is especially relevant at the international level with the support of the United Nations. In 2015, 17 sustainable Development Goals were developed at the UN summit. Explaining «The concept of sustainable development» to young people is one of the urgent measures. Familiarization of students of the Department of "Physical Chemistry, Catalysis and Petrochemistry" of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University with the environmental goal of The concept of sustainable development» became possible after a full acquaintance with the technology of chemical production. An event was held to make sure of the damage caused by chemical production from incorrectly selected technologies to the environment, which ultimately made it possible to understand that the focus on environmental issues of sustainable development is directly related to their future professions. 

In the autumn of 2022, a senior researcher at the Institute of Geology and Mineralogy of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences Kokh Konstantin Aleksandrovich came by invitation to the "Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry".

The purpose of the visit was to carry out research work together with the staff and students of the department, teaching methods for obtaining functional inorganic materials and methods for their study. So, for example, in the course of the work, sulfide compounds were synthesized to study the degree of distribution of impurity elements, an exhaust post was assembled and tested to obtain vacuum-sealed quartz ampoules. In addition, further plans for cooperation and knowledge exchange between the department and IGM SB RAS were discussed. Kokh K.A., being a foreign participant in the projects of the Global Fund and the supervisor of students, made a great contribution to the development of science and the level of qualification of young scientists of the department.
