The Department of Analytical, Colloid Chemistry and Technology of Rare Elements was formed by a gradual merging of 3 departments: Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry of Rare Elements, Colloid Chemistry. At the moment, it is one of the largest at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of al-Farabi KazNU.

The lecturers of the department train students of all specialties of the faculty in the basic areas of chemistry, as well as in analytical chemistry - for the geographical, medical, physical and biological faculties.  

The department conducts the research in the field of analytical, colloid chemistry, environmental science, electrochemical synthesis, current sources, technology of composite materials, rare elements. The research activity of the department is closely connected with the Center for Physical and Chemical Methods of Research and Analysis (https://cfhma.kz/). The department is the leader in terms of the number of publications in Q1 and Q2 journals.
