The Chairman of the Central Bank of the State of Qatar Sheikh Abdollah bin Saud Al-Thani delivered a lecture on Islamic finance and banking at theal-Farabi KazNU.
Rector of KazNU Galym Mutanov expressed deep gratitude to the Sheikh for the increased attention to cooperation with the university. "The second visit of Abdollah bin Saud Al-Thani to KazNU is a manifestation of high confidence and a natural continuation of strengthening partnership relations between Kazakhstan and Qatar, large financial institutions and universities of the two countries" said Mutanov.
This is the first time a lecture by a top-level practitioner of the largest financial institution in Qatar is held in Kazakhstan. Sheikh Abdollah bin Saud Al Thani spoke about the activities of the bank, the basic principles of Islamic finance. He also expressed a desire to continue such useful meetings and joint events with students, young scientists and teachers of KazNU.
“Today the State of Qatar is interested in the development of Islamic finance and pays great attention to this. We are pleased with the strategic partnership with the leading university of Kazakhstan — Al-Farabi KazNU , which has significant research potential, practical experience in the implementation of international scientific projects and prepares highly qualified specialists in the field of finance and economics" said Sheikh Abdollah bin Saud Al-Thani.
Representatives of the delegation of the Central Bank of the State of Qatar Sheikh Khalid Soud Al-Thani, Hussein Ali Al Abdullah, Michael Gerard Ryen, Adel Mustafauy, Ahmad Ali K Ahmad, Abdullah Al Jida, Salem Ali Al Kawari introduced the audience about a wide range of Islamic banking products, deposit and investment services, retail finance, individuals and more. They also answered numerous questions from students and teachers of KazNU.
It should be noted that in 2016, during the visit of the Sheikh to Kazakhstan, an agreement on cooperation was signed between KazNU and the Bank of the State of Qatar. The partnership involves the development of scientific and educational contacts and academic mobility, the implementation of joint dual programs and research, trainings and master classes for domestic specialists in the financial sector, and much more.
At the end of the lecture, Abdollah bin Saud Al-Thani was awarded the title of "Honorary Doctor of KazNU". Sheikh thanked the KazNU staff for awarding the high title, wishing the university further success in achieving the tasks set.
The meeting with the distinguished guests was attended by the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the State of Qatar Askar Shokybaev, President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Murat Zhurinov, representatives and experts of domestic and foreign banks.
