Reading brings knowledge and knowledge is power

On February 12, 2021, on the ZOOM platform, an online meeting was held with Raisa Kadyr, founder of the Steppe & World Publishing House. The meeting was organized by the Department of Publishing, Editing and Design Art of the Faculty of Journalism of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The meeting was attended by lecturers and students.

The very first book that Steppe & World Publishing House has published was translation of Julia Donaldson's fairy tale “The Rhyming Rabbit” into Kazakh in 2018. The next book was translation of the same authors “Gruffalo”. “These two books are fairy tales that all the children of the world grew up by listen to it, and I wanted Kazakh children to be familiar with them in their native language” said the publisher.

In addition to these books, the publishing house has already published translation of E. Carle "The very hungry Caterpillar", "The Diary of Anne Frank", H. Elrod "The miracle morning" and a series of books of J.K. Rowling "Harry Potter".

The most popular books in the publishing house are J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter book series. These books are illustrated by Bloomsbury Publishing UK and illustrated by Johnny Duddle.

Raisa Kadyr also said that 10% of books in the future that Steppe & World Publishing house will publish is going to be motivational, and she also introduced the authors, whose books will be translated.

At the meeting, Raisa Kadyr shared her experience in translating, publishing books, finding an experienced, competent specialist, and spoke a little about the peculiarities of Kazakh fairy tales and foreign fairy tales. She told about the books at the Frankfurt Book Fair, which is held annually in Germany.

At the end of the meeting, the lecturers and students of the faculty thanked Raisa Kadyr and extended their best wishes.
