Future specialists in Islamic studies are familiar with the heritage of prominent Islamic philosophers

On March 31, 2023 an open class was held on the topic «Prominent representatives of Islamic philosophy schools». In the framework of pedagogical experience, 1st year master's student of «7M02205 – Islamic studies» Yeleussyzbayeva Nazerke, under the direction of senior lecturer of the Department of Religion and Cultural Studies, Ph.D. Ruslan Sarsembayev teachs lectures and seminars on Islamic philosophy for 2nd year students of «6B02205 – islamic studies» specialty. They are informed by the philosophical conclusions of al-Kindi, Al-Farabi, Ibn Rushd, who relied on the thoughts of Greek sages like Plato and Aristotle, and with the works of al-Ghazali, which reveal the secrets of the heart, and the life of later representative, Mullah Sadr.

Since Islamic philosophers wrote their works in Arabic, we translated excerpts from the original Arabic version in addition to the Kazakh and Russian translations. For example, Ibn Tufayl's work «Hai ibn Yaqzan» aroused great interest of students.

During the lecture, the works of representatives of the «Mashaya» and «Ishraqiyya» schools and their importance were emphasized, and the method «wheel» was used to consolidate the materials .In addition, an exhibition of al-Farabi books was held as a visual. Students understood the importance of the works of Islamic philosophers and learned about pluralism in Islam. At the end, a final assessment was made on the topic using the method «Wisdom of the Owl». In short, it is important to consider the legacy of Islamic philosophers. They closely understood the philosophy of the representatives of the Greek and Roman schools before them, developed it further, and later became the cause of the renaissance in Europe. Thus, contributed to the development of world philosophy.
