DAYS OF INDIA IN KAZNU

KazNU holds events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Republic of India and the 150th anniversary of the birth of the spiritual leader of the Indian people, Mahatma Gandhi. It is conducted by the country's leading institution of higher education jointly with the Embassy of India in Kazakhstan.

 

The Festival of Indian Culture and Literature – «Days of India», opened the events. On the Day of His Memory, a presentation of the book «Thoughts and Sayings of Gandhi» took place in the Mahatma Gandhi Center at KazNU. The initiator of its publication was the Rector, Academician Galym Mutanov. A unique book of aphorisms and sayings by M. Gandhi was published in three languages – Kazakh, Russian and English.

«Mahatma Gandhi said: «To change the world, you have to change yourself first». He sought to change the country and the world for the better, and with his life example, fortitude and high humanism he instilled faith in goodness and justice, and led his people to the bright future», - highlighted Rector of KazNU Galym Mutanov, opening the meeting.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to Kazakhstan Mr. Prabhat Kumar has expressed his sincere appreciation to Al-Farabi KazNU for organizing and holding anniversary events. «Mahatma Gandhi is revered not only in India, but throughout the world. His calls for humanity and non-violence remain relevant to this day. Moreover, publication of the book is a landmark event for us and contributes to greater mutual understanding and cultural rapprochement of our peoples. The study of the literary heritage of the great representative of Indian people, of course, will be useful to the young generation of Kazakhstan», - said the distinguished guest.

The Festival has become a real cultural bridge between Kazakhstan and India. The students of the Indian Department of the Faculty of Oriental Studies quoted the words of the great Mahatma, and acquainted the participants with life and work of the great son of Indian people.

The Kazakh-Indian Information Technology Center is successfully operating at KazNU, and there were opened the Mahatma Gandhi Indian Research Center. The students and academic staff of the University study and undergo internships within the academic exchange programs at Universities in India, and joint research projects are being conducted. The number of Indian students wishing to pursue higher education at a Kazakhstani University is growing, and the professors from India are being invited to give lectures at KazNU.
