An open lecture “Prevention and Reduction of Statelessness in Central Asia”

Ladies and Gentlemen!

We are pleased to invite you to an open lecture “Prevention and Reduction of Statelessness in Central Asia” that will take place on 14 November 2017. The lecture will be organized by the UNHCR Regional Representation for Central Asia and the UN Regional Resource Assistance Center, International Relations Department  of al-Farabi Kazakh National University (International Law Chair and International Relations and World Economy Chair).

Statelessness has become a global problem that encompasses all regions and requires new approaches that unite the entire world community including states, international governmental and non-governmental organizations, civil society and academia.

UNHCR is actively working on prevention and reduction of statelessness throughout the world in the framework of the “Global Action Plan to End Statelessness: 2014 – 2024” and covers the Central Asian region that has a great potential to solve the problem of statelessness.

Academia and a new growing generation of young scholars including future international lawyers and diplomats demonstrate a very promising potential in addressing the statelessness issue.

The open lecture will be conducted by the Regional Protection Officer (Statelessness) from the UNHCR Regional Representation and representatives of NGOs from the Central Asian countries who have established the “Central Asian Network on Statelessness” with the aim to effectively prevent statelessness in the region.
