Chair History

    After the proclamation of state independence of Kazakhstan and its entry into the international community was necessary to prepare qualified personnel to work in foreign institutions. In this regard, on the initiative of Professor Zh. Ibrashev the specialty "international relations" was included to the Republican classifier specialties. Under this specialty in 1992 the Chair of International Relations and Foreign Policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan was established in the framework of the History Department. In 1995 this department became a part of the newly formed Department of International Relations. The first chair was a prominent scholar on international affairs, historian, doctor of historical sciences, professor Zharas Umarovich Ibrashev. Over the years, the department was headed by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor. K.E. Baizakova, prof. F.T. Kukeeva, Doctor of History, Associate Professor S.Z. Sapanov. On September 1, 2010 E.S. Chukubaev, Ph.D., Associate Professor was appointed as the head of this chair.
    In 2007 the Chair were reformed the restructured. The Chair of Regional and World Economy was established on the base of the order of the rector of al-Farabi Kazakh National University in July 2007 by combining the Chair of World Economy and branch "Regional Studies", functioned within the Chair t of International Relations and Foreign Policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 2007-2009 the as the head of the chair of new ”Regional studies and world economy” was appointed the doctor of historical sciences, professor of Chernikh I.A, since 2009 head of the Chair is doctor of historical sciences, Professor K.N Makasheva. The Chair has developed a specialty "Regional studies" and “World economy”. Until the end of the 2010-2011 school year, the Chair has 5 doctors of sciences, professors Yelemesov R.E, Kozhakhmetov K.K, Makasheva K.N, Chernikh I.A, Movkebaeva G.A and 8 PhDs, assistant professors: Byuzheeva B.Z., Myrzabekov M.S., Augan M., Zhunis K.A, Urozbaeva G.A, Myrzakhmetov A.M., Meduhanova L.A, Sadykova R.O.
     By order of the rector of the KazNU Mutanov G.M. Department of International Relations and Foreign Policy of the RK and the Chair of Regional Studies and the World economy have been combined. Currently, the Department of International Relations and World Economy supervise three specialties: international relations, regional studies and global economy. 

 

 

GULZHAUHAR ZHAMBATYROVA

(1943-2002)

First Dean of the Faculty of International Relations 

Zhambatyrova Gulzhauhar Shagataevna studied at the Historical Faculty of the Chelyabinsk State Pedagogical Institute from 1961 to 1963.

1963-1966 she studied at the Historical Faculty of the Kazakh State University named after S.M. Kirov.

1966 to 1970 Gulzhauhar Zhambatyrova worked as a senior laboratory assistant at the Department of Marxism-Leninism of the State Institute of Arts.

1970-1974 Gulzhauhar Zhambatyrova worked as an assistant at the Department of World History of KazGU.

1974-1977 She studied at the full-time postgraduate course of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. In 1978, she successfully defended her Candidate thesis.

1977 to 1992, she worked first as a senior lecturer, then as an associate professor of the Department of General History of the Historical Faculty of KazGU.

1992 to 1993 she worked as Dean of the Correspondence Faculty of History.

1993 to 1995 – Dean of the Faculty of History of KazGU.

Zhambatyrova G.Sh. was one of the founders of the "International relations" specialty, and then the Faculty of "International Relations". 1995 -2001 Gulzhauhar Shagataevna was the first dean of this faculty and made an invaluable contribution to the formation of Kazakhstani international specialists. Gulzhauhar Zhambatyrova has published significant number of educational and methodological publications on the history of European and American countries, History of International relations, Foreign policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In 1995, by the decision of the Academic Council of Al-Farabi KazGU, she was awarded the academic title of professor of KazGU.

Today, professor Gulzhauhar Zhambatyrova’s students work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in foreign missions of Kazakhstan in various institutions of our republic and remember their mentor and teacher with gratitude.

Along with high professional and organizational qualities, colleagues and students respected Gulzhauhar Shagataevna for exceptional decency, integrity, human kindness, breadth of soul, where there was a kind word and deep understanding for everyone.

IBRASHEV ZHARAS UMAROVICH

(1928-2016)

 

Zharas Umarovich Ibrashev graduated the Historical Faculty of the Kazakh State University in 1950. Immediately after graduating the university in 1950, he stayed there working as an assistant at the Department of World History of KazGU until his election in 1952 as the second secretary of the Almaty City Komsomol Committee.

1954-1957, Zharas Ibrashev was the First Secretary of the Komsomol Committee of KazGU.

In 1970 he defended his Candidate thesis, and in 1986 he defended his doctoral dissertation. 1987-1994 – Head of the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of KazGU, 1994-2000 - Head of the Department of International Relations and Foreign Policy of the RK Faculty of International Relations.

In 2000, by the decision of the Academic Council of Al-Farabi Kazakh State University, he was awarded the title of "Honorary Head of the Department" for his significant contribution to the development of Kazakh education.

Ibrashev Zh.U. has the merit of discovering a new direction in science that did not exist in Kazakhstan before. His scientific research resulted in more than 100 articles, 2 monographs and a significant number of teaching-methodological manuals.

Being a prominent scientist, Zh.U.Ibrashev was doing scientific research on the problems of the modern political history of France, modern problems of International relations, problems of European integration.

For his fruitful work, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Ibrashev Zh.U. was repeatedly awarded diplomas by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.


KENESBAI KOZHAKHMETOV

(1938-2014)

Kozhakhmetuly Kenesbai in 1956 was admitted to the Historical faculty of the Kirov State University. In 1961 he graduated it with honors. He worked as a teacher for two years, and then as a head teacher at the Russian-Kazakh 11-year secondary school (Chunja village).

From 1963 to 1964 - postgraduate student of the Department of World History of KazGU.

1964-1967 he had the Internship at the Institute of Asian and African Countries at Moscow State University and Cairo University (Egypt).

In 1968 he defended his Candidate dissertation, and in 1997 he defended his doctoral dissertation.

K.K. Kozhakhmetov was the initiator of the establishment of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, and from 1989 to 2003 he worked as the Head of the Department of Asian and African History, then the Department of Indology.

2004 - 2014 K.K. Kozhakhmetov – Professor of the Faculty of International Relations. He is the author of more than 80 scientific works, including monographs, textbooks, articles on the problems of Arab countries.

A well-known scientist, an expert on Asian and African countries, a talented teacher and a sympathetic person. Within the walls of KazSU, he passed all the stages of teaching career – from assistant to professor.

Professor Kozhakhmetov K.K. is very well known in the scientific circles of Moscow, Kiev, Simferopol, Baku, Tashkent, Istanbul, Tbilisi, Delhi, Lanzhou, Tehran, Krakow, etc. He was among the first who promoted contacts with embassies and cultural centers of Korea, Egypt, Palestine, India, China, Lebanon, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan etc.

IGOR BURNASHOV 

(1959-2006)

Burnashov Igor Leonidovich 1982 graduated Historical Faculty of KazNU with a degree in History.

1982-85 he was a postgraduate student of the Department of World History of the University.

1986-1993 Burnashov I.L. worked as an assistant at the Department of Political History of the Almaty Energy Institute.

In 1994 Burnashov I.L. successfully defended his Candidate thesis.

1993-2006 worked at the Faculty of International Relations of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Burnashov I.L. gave lectures in Russian and English on the core disciplines of the specialty at a high professional level. Igor Leonidovich has developed specialшяув courses on the Foreign Policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, History, Political system and Foreign policy of Great Britain. He constantly worked to improve his professional and theoretical level, uses interactive methods of teaching students.

Students’ research works written under his supervision have repeatedly been awarded prizes at interuniversity and republican competitions. Professor Burnashov was awarded diplomas of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

RAUSHAN YELEMESOV

(1942-2021)

R.Y. Yelemesov graduated the Faculty of Economics of the Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1969 and was admitted to the postgraduate course of the faculty same year. In 1972, after graduating the postgraduate study, the worked for Karaganda State University as senior lecturer. Until 1987, he passed the path at this university from the senior teacher to the dean. He worked in the system of the National Academy of Science, the Ministry of economy, the highest Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In 1995, R. Yelemesov was invited as the head of the Department of International Economic Relations at the University. Al-Farabi. Since then he has been working at the Kazakh National University. In particular, from 1995 to 2001 he worked as the head of the Department of International Economic Relations, from 2001 to 2004 as the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, from 2004 to 2011 as a Professor of the Department of Regional Studies and World Economy, from 2011 to 2021 as a Professor of the Department of International Relations and World Economy .

In 1973 he defended his Candidate thesis at Moscow State University, and in 1998 he defended his doctoral thesis at the Kazakh National University. Under the guidance of R. Yelemesov, 3 doctoral and more than 15 master's theses, 3 PhD were defended.

Professor R. Yelemesov in 2012 was awarded the Order of "Kurmet" and "Kazakhstannyn enbek sinirgen kayratkeri", academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Kazakhstan.
