A round table "Eurasian Economic Union: Development Trends"

April 5, 2017 in the Center of Eurasian Studies within the framework of the Fourth Farabian
Readings was held the round table. Topic of round table is "Eurasian Economic Union:
Development Trends"
The participants of the round table tried to answer the ambiguity of the negative assessments of
Kazakhstan's participation in the EEU, which occur in the media, and in expert discussions.
During the meeting, the results of the activities of the EEU for 2 years of existence were
discussed; the growth rates of the member states of the EEU were analyzed. The particular
attention was paid to energy cooperation between the largest economies of the EEU - Russia and
Kazakhstan. The many current problems have been raised, namely: the reduction in the share of
trade between countries related to the economic crisis and the drop in prices for raw materials;
insufficiently wide application of scientific, technical, labor potential of the countries for the
decision of the problem of innovative development of the most competitive branches of
economy, including power and extractive sectors; geopolitical problems that reduce the growth
opportunities not only of the union itself, but also of the economies of the participating countries.
Therefore, justice and security should become the basis of the integration association.
During the discussion, interesting suggestions were expressed by BA students and MA students
on the need to develop cultural and humanitarian cooperation, to make understandable the idea
of the Eurasian Union and, following the example of the successful functioning of the UN Model
Conference, create a similar Model of the Eurasian Economic Community. Repeatedly
mentioned the short-term experience of the EEU experience and expressed the hope that over
time the work of the Union will become more visible and fruitful.
