Purpose

The purpose of the educational program is the high-quality training of scientific and pedagogical personnel capable of solving scientific problems in the field of analysis and development of the digital economy at the intersection of interdisciplinary research.

The program is aimed at forming a professional personality of a specialist capable of:

- to analyze and manage professionally big data in the economy based on advanced scientific approaches;

engage in strategic planning, development and integration of digital technologies into business processes based on the analysis and assessment of their effectiveness;

- to determine promising directions for the development of e-business in various areas of the economy on the basis of scientifically based conclusions;

- to effectively manage business processes, information technologies and systems in various sectors of the economy;

- to substantiate the results of scientific research in the master's thesis and publications for practical implementation in the national economy.

The program is developed on the basis of a competency-based qualification model of specialists that meets the needs of the labor market and the requirements of employers. The EP includes a description of the key competencies of masters, the level of their preparedness and readiness to perform specific professional functions.

Learning outcomes

As a result of mastering the educational program "Digital Economics", master students will be able to:

1) demonstrate deep modern economic knowledge and, based on the latest theories, interpret, compare and generalize real processes in the global and national economy in the context of globalization and digitalization of economic development;

2) critically evaluate and interpret the advanced achievements of theory and practice in the development of information and communication technologies and systems applied and used in the world economy, in the partner countries of Kazakhstan in foreign trade, in the business and financial environment and analytics, to determine the role of VR technologies / AR / MR in economic development;

3) use modern processing methods and business intelligence tools for analyzing big data in the development of new software products, websites and applications in order to improve the efficiency of business processes in the national economy, as a whole, and / or industry / region / enterprise;

4) independently research and evaluate trends in information technology infrastructure and the possibility of introducing big data technologies, artificial intelligence, VR / AR / MR and other ICTs in various sectors of the national economy on the basis of generalization, critical assessment and correct interpretation, and application of the results of domestic and foreign researchers and practitioners;

5) analyze and evaluate the real problems of business and economic policy based on the collection, analysis and comparison of big data and official statistics, propose their promising areas of development in various areas of the national economy, substantiate the causes and consequences of illegal activities in the context of digitalization based on scientifically grounded conclusions;

6) develop strategic and operational plans and budgets, smart contracts and blockchain; professionally interpret, analyze and compare the financial and economic reports of organizations of various types of property in the digital environment and in the real economy to determine their competitive advantages and propose new forms of doing regional and international business based on forecasting the situation in world markets;

7) carry out a comprehensive analysis of existing and latest methods for assessing and analyzing the investment climate and business environment, propose new indicators and tools for their improvement and adaptation to Kazakhstan's economic realities in order to increase the country's position in global ratings of competitiveness and doing business, substantiate their practical significance with taking into account the trends of digital development of the national economy;

8) find and propose ways to qualitatively improve business processes in the country, transform them into new ones based on digital technologies: big data, blockchain, artificial intelligence, VR / AR / MR, relying on programming and software development skills (Python, Java, Ruby, PHP, Javascript, etc.);

9) simulate new solutions to economic problems of distribution and use of resources, processes and risks in the national economy based on the development of digital technologies: working with big data, implementing blockchain, using artificial intelligence and VR / AR / MR;

10) analyze current trends and features of the development of the global cryptocurrency market and the ICO market, advanced world blockchain technologies in the field of finance, agency relations in blockchain systems, PoS algorithms for the development of analogues and new models for Kazakhstani business and propose new ideas and solutions to existing problems in this area in the national economy;

11) evaluate statistical data of the national economy and compare them in world data to explain the economic development of the country on the basis of applied econometric, micro- and macroeconomic modeling, analyze and interpret the results of modeling to predict the state and development of the economy of Kazakhstan, as a whole, and / or a separate region / industry / enterprises of the country based on the assessment of the adequacy and reliability of the developed model;

12) substantiate their point of view on the introduction of new ideas and models in oral and written forms in Kazakh, Russian and foreign languages ​​to solve problems to improve the economic development of an enterprise, industry / region or country, as a whole; to professionally and democratically lead the team, tolerantly perceiving social, ethnic, confessional and cultural differences, the historical heritage of the state; comply with the norms of social, professional ethics; to show the ability to bear personal responsibility for the results of the team's activity, to demonstrate successful and positive communication skills, public speaking skills and law-abidingness in professional activities and during business negotiations; professionally and objectively assess and analyze the effective areas of application of their economic knowledge and information and communication skills.

- Academic activities

Academic activities in the educational program are regulated by the Academic Policy of Al-Farabi KazNU and are implemented within the framework of existing regulatory documents and guidelines in the field of postgraduate education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The educational program assumes to ensure the unity of the educational and research process, compiled in accordance with the requirements of foreign universities and professional standards of NCE "Atameken", built on a modular principle based on a competence-based approach.

The main task of the master's program is to develop undergraduates' own research skills, the development of analytical thinking. To this end, one of the main forms of assessing the knowledge of undergraduates is the presentation of their own research, which is an independent theoretical, empirical or applied analysis on economic problems.

During the entire period of study, undergraduates study a set of mandatory basic and profile disciplines that allow them to form research skills for future masters, at the same time, a wide selection of elective disciplines in the educational program contribute to the formation of deep functional and systemic competencies.

 

- Scientific activity

Undergraduates have the opportunity to participate in the annual international conference for students and young scientists "Al-Farabi Alemi" within the framework of international Farabi readings.

Undergraduates are necessarily attracted to participate in the implementation of scientific projects of the Department of Economics, which allows you to determine the subject of their dissertations. To date, the teaching staff of the department are implementing the following projects:

1) a project within the framework of grant financing of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Creative industries: methodological aspects of classification and quantitative measurements in the Republic of Kazakhstan" (2020-2023). Scientific adviser: PhD, ass. professor Zhuparova A.S.

2) a project within the framework of grant financing of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan "The independence of the central bank and the achievement of the inflation target" (2021-2022). Scientific adviser: Doctor of Economics, Professor Mukhamediyev B.M.

3) a project within the framework of grant financing of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Private capital market in Kazakhstan, prospects for its development" (2021-2022). Scientific adviser: PhD, art. teacher Rakhmatullayeva D.Zh.

The student has the opportunity to offer his own areas of research in the field of fundamental and applied issues of economics.

 

- International activity

Undergraduates will be able to undergo a scientific internship at leading universities in the world and have the opportunity to study under a two-degree program upon preliminary conclusion of agreements and approval of the parties. The Department of Economics has concluded agreements on scientific cooperation and double-degree education between Al-Farabi KazNU with the following universities:

4) Bialystok University of Technology (Poland),

5) Novosibirsk University, Russia,

6) Ural Federal University, Russia,

- Quality assurance (Accreditation, rating, work with employers)

The new educational program "Digital Economics" was introduced in 2021 and has not yet participated in accreditation. Accreditation of the educational program is assumed after the first graduation of masters. The educational program plans to participate in the ratings of IAAR and NCE Atameken from 2022.

The following organizations can serve as bases of practices, with which the Department of Economics has stable and long-term partnerships: Research Institute "Gylym Ordasy", Research Center "SANJ", "Technopark KazNU" of the KazNU named after al-Farabi, Kazakh University of Railways, Center for Environmental Safety and Natural Resources, Autonomous Cluster Fund "Park of Innovative Technologies".

In addition, it is assumed that agreements will be reached with such institutions as:

  • JSC "Center for Engineering and Technology Transfer";
  • JSC "Kaznex Export Development and Promotion Corporation";
  • JSC “Damu” Entrepreneurship Development Fund;
  • JSC "National Innovation Fund";
  • JSC "Investment Fund of Kazakhstan";

To date, work is underway to conclude a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Higher School of Economics and Business and the Department of Digitalization of the city of Almaty. The memorandum will allow students to undergo internships and professional practices on the basis of this institution and facilitate the employment of future undergraduates.

"Digital economics" refers to new specializations and are relevant at accelerated transformation of the digital economy in the country and the world. Graduates will be in demand in the local and global labor markets, according to forecasts of the development of the world economy and the global labor market in the next five years. Diplomas of completion of the EP give an advantage in the labor market over those who graduated from narrow-profile specialties. In addition, masters can continue their doctoral studies in the educational program "Economics".
