According to the data of the Independent Kazakhstan Agency for Quality Assurance in Education, a National (general) rating-2018 of the best universities in Kazakhstan was compiled, based on an analysis of academic statistical indicators, expert estimates and a survey of employers.

In 2018, universities in multidisciplinary, technical, humanitarian, economic, medical and pedagogical areas, as well as art, took part in the national ranking of universities in Kazakhstan-2018 - only 60 universities.

KazNU named after al-Farabi takes part in the general ranking of universities conducted by the Independent Kazakhstan Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (IQAA) and in the ranking of undergraduate educational programs conducted by the Bologna Process and Academic Mobility Center of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The university also participated in an independent ranking of universities in areas and levels of training conducted by the IAAR.
