"Prose development in Kazakhstan literature"

On November 23, 2020 doctor of philology, professor A.Zh. Zhaksylykov delivered the lecture for the teaching staff of the Faculty of Philology and World Languages of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University within the project: “Professor hour”. The lecture topic was   "Prose development  in Kazakhstan literature” over the past twenty - thirty years. 

A.Zh. Zhaksylykov delivered his talk in the form of a conversation, he spoke about the results of his translation work of Kazakh prose (last year his translations of the novels by A.Mekebaev, S. Smataeva, T. Nurmagambetova were published). He briefly dwelt on the analysis of the translation of "Kok serek" by M.O. Auezov. Then the speaker moved on to the topic of his lecture. He characterized the development of the Kazakh and Russian prose in Kazakhstan for the last quarter of a century.

Typologizing the genres and styles of Kazakh and Russian-language prose development in Kazakhstan during this period, he identified the following genres: story, novella, novel, as well as stylistic trends, which he conventionally designated as discourses: historical discourse, ecological, mythological, village prose (traditional realism) and postmodernism ... Professor A.Zh. Zhaksylykov described the content and stylistic features of each trend and enumerated the most significant works on each discourse. So, dilogy: "The Last Duty" by Nurpeisov A, the novel: "Despair or the Dead Wander in sands ” by R. Seisenbayev, the stories by Kanat Kabdrakhmanov, the story: “The Road of People” by A. Alimzhanov“”. The so-called "village prose" (traditional realism) included the works of the majority of Kazakh prose writers, for example, Dulat Isabekov, Sain Muratbekov, K. Iskakov, B. Nurzhekeev, A. Askarov, D. Doszhanov, O. Bokeev, S. Asylbekuly, A. Mekebaeva, E. Alimzhan, Sh. Beisenova and many others. others.

The speaker made a detailed focus on “postmodern literature” in Kazakhstan, naming the literary works by D. Amantai, T. Abdikov, T. Sauketayev, D. Nakipov, A. Yksan, O. Mark, I. Odegov, M. Zemskov, E Zhumagulova and many others. At the end of the lecture, the speaker analyzed several works of Kazakh and Russian literature in Kazakhstan, in particular, the novel "Men zhyndymyk" by T. Sauketayev , story "The Flaming War of Reason" by T. Abdikov', the story "Chronicle of the Great Jute" by V. Mikhailov, the trilogy: "Lonely yurt" by S. Elubaya , the novel: "Zharmak by M. Magauin ".

Zhaksylykov's lecture was listened to with a great interest. The audience asked questions. Then the panel discussion took place with the participation of Prof. OK. Abisheva, A.B. Abdullina and other teachers.
