The conference was held in line with the discussion of methodological and practical problems of religious science and education in the context of global challenges of our time.

The conference was attended by high-ranking guests: rector of the University of foreign languages and business career Sabri Hizmetli, Vice-rector of the Egyptian University of Islamic culture “Nur-Mubarak” Kurmanbayev Kairat, Consul General of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Republic of Kazakhstan Nazir Bakhodur, Consul of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan in the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhakypov Kairatbek Nazirinbekovich, Deputy Head of the Social Development Department of Almaty Esenbekov Aidar Rakhymzhanovich, Head of the Department For Religious Affairs of Almaty Region Esdauletov Rakhmet Razbekovich, representatives of research institutes, heads of centers for the prevention of religious extremism, members of the Club of Religious Associations Leaders of Almaty, members of advocacy groups for the prevention of religious extremism and terrorism; professors and teachers of foreign, domestic universities, young scientists, media representatives, etc.

Plenary and sectional sessions of conference were held in the following main areas: actual problems of teaching religious studies in the system of secondary and higher education; competence-based approach in the training of specialists in religious studies in modern conditions; religious studies as a new direction of science of independent Kazakhstan: interdisciplinary studies; the effectiveness of religious studies in the implementation of state policy in the field of religion and development prospects.

The event hosted an exhibition from the collections of the Museum "Ruh Horde", the Museum of the history of religion, the exhibition of a number of the Club of Religious Associations Leaders of Almaty, exhibitions of the Embassy of Tajikistan on the theme: "Crimes of the Terrorist Organizations of Tajikistan “Party of revival of Islam”. At the same time, there were held exhibition: “Religion in everyday life” and a book exhibition.

During the meeting of the conference, congratulations of foreign and domestic colleagues, guests on the 20th anniversary of the specialty “Religious Studies” were announced and memories of the history of major were mentioned.

In 1999, professional training of specialists in Religious Studies began for the first time at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The works of professors B.K. Kudaibergenov and M.S. Orynbekov play an important role in the training of specialists.

Over the 20-year period, “Religious Studies” has developed fruitfully in the study of socio-cultural life of Kazakhstan society. Today, this specialty has been significantly strengthened by domestic and foreign literature, contracts with pedagogical and practical bases of students have been signed, and cooperation with foreign scientific institutes and universities has begun to develop on the exchange of scientific, educational, and organizational experience. Today, religious scholars highly appreciate the importance of integration into the world educational space. Participation in foreign conferences, seminars, publications of scientific articles in foreign journals with the level of impact factor, implementation of joint projects with foreign researchers, etc. are actively encouraged among specialists and young researchers.

In general, the conference was of summarizing importance in determining achievements in solving religious problems and building research prospects.

As a result of the conference, resolutions were adopted, which will be sent to religious scholars, heads of state bodies on issues of public consent, religious research institutes and centers, educational institutions, etc.
