Kazakhstan is one of the countries that has suffered the most from nuclear weapon testing in the world. On this day, August 29, 1991, the official closure of the world's largest Semipalatinsk Test Site took place. This date was endorsed by Kazakhstan's initiative during the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly, held on December 2, 2009, to intensify the efforts of the UN, world states, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations towards the cessation of nuclear testing.

We also emphasize the alignment of the Roundtable with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals - environmental protection (SDG 14 Life Below Water and SDG 15 Life on Land), efficient resource management and climate change mitigation (SDG 13 Climate Action), fostering justice and rule of law (SDG 16 Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), as well as partnership (SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals) to achieve common objectives.

The purpose of this round table was to create a multilateral dialogue on anti-nuclear tests with the participation of representatives of the diplomatic corps, the scientific and academic community, international organizations, as well as young scientists and students.
