Scientific research "Radiation-hygienic assessment of the territory and educational buildings of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University for the content of natural radioactive gas radon"
Fourth-year students of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University conducted a scientific study "Radiation-hygienic assessment of the territory and educational buildings of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University on the content of natural radioactive gas radon".
According to the result of the study, the following conclusions were made:
The average value of the gamma radiation DER at all points studied throughout the university is 0.17 µSv/h, which is at the level of the natural gamma background for the Almaty region. The average DER value of gamma radiation in rooms is 0.18 µSv/h, which is also at the level of the natural background for Almaty.
The concentration of radon EERO does not exceed the standard values for buildings in use and is characterized by a background value for Almaty.
By calculation, it is established that the annual dose from natural sources of radiation for students and teachers of the Kazakh National University. Al-Farabi is 0.63 mSv/year, which is below the permissible dose limit for a population of 1 mSv/year.
