On January 26, 2024, at the Department of the Far East of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, a ceremony was held to award an international scholarship from the company “HOWON Ceramic & Granite” (Seoul, Korea). In the ceremony 3 2nd year students of the Department of the Far East (Korean Studies) were awarded certificates and scholarships. The sponsor of this scholarship, HOWON Ceramic & Granite, began providing scholarships for the first time since the early 2010s for overseas students. The director of the company “HOWON Ceramic & Granite” Jung Kyung Won, simultaneously acts as the secretary general of the Foundation “Korean Center for History and Culture”, which every year makes a historical excursion with students from different universities in Korea in different countries of the world. He has already come to Kazakhstan twice (2022 and 2023) with many students and visited many historical places. And he is also well aware of the Department of the Far East of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Scholarship applicants were recommended based on grades and a letter of recommendation under the guidance of professor Lee Byong Jo. Scholarship recipients of the Department of the Far East (Korean Studies) once again showed a high level of knowledge in the field of Korean Studies and thus passed tough competition. This achievement became a good example for all students of the Department.
