On December 8, 2023, the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Almaty and the Chinese State Council for Scholarships for Foreign Students, together with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, held the exhibition "Higher Education in China". It is the largest event on cooperation in the field of education organized between Kazakhstan and China in recent years. This educational exhibition was attended by 30 Chinese universities, the flagships of the Chinese education system, such as Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Sun Yat-sen University, Beijing University of Language and Culture, Harbin Institute of Technology, Dalian University of Technology, etc. The simultaneous translation of this event was carried out by a team of translators from the Department of Chinese Studies led by Professor Fatimabibi Nogaikyzy Daulet. Professor Daulet told the participants of the educational exhibition-guests from China about our university, in particular, about the museum of our university. Sabigazina Saule, a doctoral student of the 3rd year of study, provided simultaneous translation of the solemn part of the event from Kazakh into Chinese. Doctoral students of the 1st year of study Junisbek Lina, Su Jiayin, undergraduates of the 1st year of study Sadenova Alima, Dankey Baknar, Wang Lingling, Wang Yuting, Basar Inkar provided simultaneous translation in the process of information exchange between the organizers and guests of the exhibition. Combining theory with practice is a good tradition established at the Department of Chinese Studies. Doctoral students, undergraduates, as well as bachelors of the department studying translation regularly participate in events organized within the framework of cultural and scientific exchange between Kazakhstan and the People's Republic of China. This event is also an excellent platform during which doctoral and undergraduate students were once again able to gain invaluable professional experience. Working together in a collaborative environment is a great way to develop the activity of doctoral and undergraduates, change the way they think, cultivate social and moral skills: the ability to work in a team, make a group decision and be responsible for it, strive to gain new knowledge. It was the results of such joint work that were demonstrated by the professor and her students during today's event.
