On November 28, 2023, the Department of Chinese Studies of the Faculty of Oriental Studies held the IV city scientific workshop on conference translation with the participation of leading specialists of the translation department of Asian Gas Pipeline LLP Mr. Chen Bo, Mr. Jiang Tao, Mr. Wu Bing, Ms. Bagzhan. The scientific seminar-workshop was organized by Fatimabibi Nogaykyzy Daulet, professor of the Department of Chinese Studies, within the framework of the disciplines “Innovative technologies and methodology for teaching translation”, “Modern translation concepts” and “Speech etiquette and negotiation practice in an Eastern language”, which the professor teaches to doctoral and master’s students of the department. The purpose of this event is to familiarize everyone with the theoretical foundations and practical examples of the use of innovative techniques for conference interpretation (two-way interpretation). As part of the seminar, a master class was held from Professor Daulet, who noted that conference translation is a complex psycholinguistic process in which, firstly, excellent knowledge of the languages that are involved in translation, secondly, an appropriate psychological attitude, Thirdly, it is high erudition. The professor also spoke about the basic techniques of oral translation, the mode of alternating and simultaneous perception and speaking, the general temporal characteristics of oral translation, as well as the main linguistic features of this type of translation. The professor’s student, first-year master’s student Baknar Dankey, also spoke as part of the master class. Bucknar spoke about the important professional skills required by an interpreter. Bucknar noted that one of the important professional qualities of a conference interpreter is good concentration. Moreover, the translator’s attention should be of several types at once: sensory-perceptual, intellectual, auditory and voluntary. Another important professional quality of an interpreter is resistance to stress and interference, the ability to abstract from the external environment and all distracting extraneous factors that interfere with the translation process. 1st year master's student Alima Sadenova carried out consecutive translation of the lecturers' speech, demonstrating the style of this one of the complex types of interpretation.

   The guest of the seminar, the head of the translation department of Asian Gas Pipeline LLP, Mr. Chen Bo, noted that in addition to the above professional qualities, an interpreter must have artistic abilities, since he must grasp the tone and nuances of the speaker’s speech, adapt to his style and convey information to listeners, received non-verbally. Mr. Jiang Tao noted that a practicing translator must be physically resilient, as he has to withstand concentration and psychophysiological stress for a long time.

   The seminar participants noted the relevance of holding such events, within the framework of which practicing translators can share their professional experience both with colleagues and with students, undergraduates and doctoral students of universities.
