On November 20, 2023, the Department of Chinese Studies of the Faculty of Oriental Studies held the II city workshop on the problems of simultaneous translation. The main feature of this workshop was that along with teachers, doctoral students and undergraduates of our faculty, Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages, the International Academy of Business and the International Kazakh-Chinese Language College, the seminar was also attended by employers from China: top manager of Henan Tianzhong Landscape Design Engineering Co., Ltd., Mr. Jiang Binyu and top manager of Beijing Originwater Technology Co., Ltd. Mr. Xu Li. This seminar is the second event of the cycle consisting of 5 seminars, which started on November 15, 2023. The seminars were developed on the basis of the disciplines "Innovative technologies and methodology of teaching translation" and "Modern translation concepts", which are taught in the master's and doctoral studies by Professor of the Department of Chinese Studies Daulet F.N. The main purpose of the seminar is to generalize and implement the pedagogical experience of Professor Daulet F.N., as well as to familiarize everyone with the theoretical foundations of simultaneous translation and demonstrate in practice, what skills should a practicing simultaneous interpreter have. In the main part of the workshop, the 1st year undergraduate student Sadenova Alima spoke in detail about the grammatical and stylistic aspects of simultaneous translation. Alima spoke about the translation transformation of negative particles, the peculiarities of the translation of conjunctions, prepositions, numerals and proper names; as well as procedural terminology in business negotiations. 1st-year undergraduate student Wang Linlin carried out a sequential translation of the lecturer's speech, while demonstrating the stylistic features of this one of the most complex types of interpretation. The foreign guests of the seminar, Mr. Jiang and Mr. Xu, from the point of view of employers, gave valuable advice to the students who spoke. They noted that being resilient (as negotiations can take more than 3-4 hours), having intellectual flexibility (the ability to use technology to speed up translation and improve quality) are also important qualities that the employer requires from translators.
