1st International Academic Olympiad in Korean Studies for Students of Central Eurasia” in Istanbul

Olympiads in Korean Studies of the Faculty of Philology of Istanbul University are held regularly every year. This year, students from Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, who were selected in the first round at their native universities, took part in the international Olympiad. Professors from South Korea and Poland were invited as the jury of the Olympiad.

After the V-International Conference on Korean Studies in Central Eurasia, where professors from Italy, Poland, Korea, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan spoke, an international academic Olympiad for students and undergraduates was organized for the first time. Master student of the 2nd year of the Department of the Far East of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Baichigasheva Dinara, under the guidance of visiting professor Lee Byong Jo, presented her project on the topic “Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and Kazakhstan - 30 years of the tourism industry” and won the 1st prize. The winners of the Olympiad were awarded diplomas and cash prizes. In her interview, Dinara noted that “participation in the international Olympiad is a great honor for her and thanked the organizers of the Istanbul University Olympiad, Professor Lee Byong Jo and Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies Yem Natalya Borisovna for their support and this opportunity to represent Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Master student of the Department of the Far East Baichigasheva Dinara once again showed a high level of knowledge in the field of Korean studies, this achievement has become a good example for all participants in Korean studies.
