Doctoral students of the first year of the Department of the Middle East and South Asia, Department of Turksoy, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, held a video conference with students on the topic “2020 - Year of the Volunteer in Kazakhstan” to activate the voluntary movement among students, because according to the initiative of President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, the current year is the year of the Volunteer in our country. Many people perceive volunteering as just one-time community work days and environmental events-challenges, while it is a much broader and more interesting concept. Visual presentations were prepared to familiarize students with the history of the emergence of the voluntary movement, its main areas of the world, 7 areas that combine volunteer projects in Kazakhstan (“Sabatastyk”, “Saulyk”, “Taza Alem”, “Asyl Mura”, “Kamkor”,“Bilim”, “Umіt”), the legislative framework regarding volunteering in Kazakhstan, the opportunities and benefits that volunteers in our country can get. In particular, it was told about the project “Social Student Loan”: university students will be able to receive monetary rewards and transfer academic loans for the results of socially useful work. The training hour was informative and interesting, we hope that the event will further increase the social activity of our students.
